uBlock Origin Updater has become obsolete · Issue #112 · JustOff/ublock0-updater · GitHub (https://github.com/JustOff/ublock0-updater/issues/112)
QuoteI'm pleased to announce that starting from version 1.16.4.17, uBlock Origin for Firefox legacy-based browsers can auto-update itself without any additional tricks. This also means that uBlock Origin Updater is becoming obsolete, and I'm going to make it so that it uninstalls itself on the next update.
I checked Add-ons and, sure enough, uBlock Origin Updater is no longer installed.
Is this also true for Palemoon? I'll answer that. The updater had an update and when I selected it, it removed itself from Palemoon.
Not sure how I feel about this - yet. There does not seem to be an easy way to determine if the installed version of uBO is the most recent. I say, "not sure" because it was not something I worried about, or even checked, before. I'm confusing myself. ???
The warning was for legacy versions of uBlock Origin; that is, those of us using it on Pale Moon rather that current versions of Firefox that uses WebExtensions. Checking Tools>Add-ons, uBlock Origin was last updated February 10 to version 1.16.4.17. On Edge Dev, extensions shows version 1.23.0.

I see the same things, Corrine.
@satrow - I see those too but neither shows if those versions are the most recent available and neither have a "Check for updates" link.
One thing that just surprised me with the Edge version is that uBO was disabled. I don't know when that happened - nothing yelled at me. And when I tried to move the slider over to enable it again, I got a pop-up that said,
QuoteThe newest version of "uBlock Origin" has been disabled because it requires additional permissions.
When I move the slider to enable it again, I am not prompted to give it any additional permissions, but it is enabled again. ???

Lower image, see the dropdown. Same Settings cog is also on individual Add-ons pages.
With automatic updates on, my guess is that the classic version of uBlock Origin will update when the version has been compatibility-checked.
Pale Moon checks at startup, it's a common feature with browsers, security being paramount.
And I am sure it will work just fine. It is just too bad these blockers are even necessary in the first place. Oh well.
And to all this, I would like to draw your attention to this resource:
https://filterlists.com/ (https://filterlists.com/)
...here you can optionally add additional filters to the standard uBlock Origin

uBlockO v1.16.4.18 Released (February 17, 2020)
Yes, it was automatically updated
without the Updater.
Hmmm, it still show .17 in my PM and in Edge it is 1.23.0.
My version on Firefox is 1.24.4 dated 5 FEB 2020
It still shows automatic updates, set as default.
techie, Firefox didn't use the uBlock Origin Updater. Rather, it had been needed only for Firefox legacy-based browsers.
Palemoon just updated uBO to 1.16.4.18 with a date of 18 Feb. 2020.
Two computers (32 bit) updated fine.
The other two (64 bit) still showed an update for uBO updater and uBO. The updater updated but uBO stalls at the 1.16.4.16 version and shoots up an error. The uBO updater did not disappear even though I closed the browser and opened it again. It probably will not disappear until I move away from 1.16.4.16 because the page the computer that worked sent me to said it isn't needed after 1.16.4.17 which I don't have and can't seem to get.
Now I'm not sure if it is because I updated Palemoon before I chose to update the addons or is it because the computers are 64 bit running a 32 bit browser. Unfortunately on my laptop, I manually removed uBO updater so I guess I'll need to re-install it.
Or, can I download 1.16.4.18 and manually install it?
I guess I'll check notes and see how to do that.
I am showing uBlock Origin v1.24.4 in Firefox and v1.23.0 in Edge.
One computer fixed itself. The one that I removed the updater stalled at ...16.
I went here
https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock-for-firefox-legacy/releases
downloaded it and it installed with no problem. All four Windows 7 computers are up to date.
Sherry, the legacy versions for old FF and Palemoon are numbered differently than modern Firefox

Oh Thank you for that! I must be off within this thread conversation. Sorry about that.
No problem. It gets confusing when older browsers needed an updater and now no longer do. Add to that, the fact that the version number is very different in the old browsers compared to the modern browsers.
Perhaps in the future he'll fix that so every browser uses the same version number.
Yes I imagine it does get confusing. It would be nice if the software versions could be the same. But I do not think that will ever happen do you? It is one way to decipher an old version to a new version when different OS's are being used? Again thank you for waking me up. ;)
It doesn't have anything to do with different operating systems. Rather, current versions of Firefox use WebExtensions and Pale Moon did not go that route. Using Pale Moon means that I can continue using legacy extensions that are no longer supported by Firefox but are long-time favorites and make posts on forums so much easier. With Colt, for example, I can select text and right-click and use the option to copy text and location as BBCode, saving having to manually format.

Thank you for clarification Corrine... :)
