On September 4, I installed KB4571744 and KB4570721.
When I opened Windows update yesterday to get the last cumulative update, I got a pop-up telling me I'd need a new app to open the "Ms-gamingoverlay link".
I went ahead with the update, but in further tests the pop-up persisted.
A Google search found some videos purported to "cure" it.
This one seemed to work, but it seems more like a "work-around" that's just hiding the problem, rather than repairing whatever went wrong.

I'm not a gamer either. I got the pop-up when I opened "Windows Update".
Update works fine, but the pop-up was a bit disconcerting.
Unless they're very well hidden, I don't have any apps that would require Xbox Game Bar. If I have Xbox Game Bar, I've never seen it..... Does it come with Windows, like IE, Edge & etc?
Another change I made recently was uninstall a bunch of "modern apps" that I've never used. Could it be related to that?
Disabling the game bar in "settings" appears to have worked, but I wondered if it was an indication of a bigger problem.
XBox Game Bar is a built in App on Windows 10. It was some time ago that something about XBox Game Bar popped up. It stopped after I made the change in Settings > Apps and turned all the App Permissions turned to off.

If it was on the "tile" section of the Windows 10 Start menu, it could easily have been one of the (now anonymous) never used apps that I uninstalled. I usually use the "Open Shell" Start menu, so I'm not really familiar with all the default tiles.
Still seems weird that "update" would trigger the pop-up.
I'm not having any problems. Until I do, I'm willing to let the mystery remain unsolved.
You can also open services.msc and disable all those xbox services from running automatically. You can uninstall these apps but if the service is still running, the service will keep "looking".
However, unless MS changes their modus operandi they will be re-enabled with every Major MS Update.
