Title: Windows 11 Taskbar Issues
Post by: Boz on April 30, 2025, 06:06:23 PM
Apparently, if I'm understanding correctly, Windows 11 will no longer let you reduce the size of the taskbar icons like could be done with Windows 10.

On top of this, "Automatically hide the taskbar" doesn't work properly in Windows 11. It works for a little while, and then randomly stops hiding itself, covering up the bottom of open windows. This is well documented across the internet. The documented solution is to restart Windows Explorer, but I need Windows Explorer open with multiple tabs for my work, so that's inconvenient, and that only keeps the hide taskbar working for a limited number of minutes before it has to be done again.

Is there a more permanent solution to keep hide taskbar working all the time in Windows 11?

Thanks!

Hi, Boz! It is good to see you.

I hope this from Windows 11 task bar won't stay hidden (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-11-task-bar-wont-stay-hidden/878080c6-2325-4bd7-b968-28dbe9751a10) works for you:

QuoteLike you experienced, my task bar would not stay hidden. Through trial and error I figured out that the taskbar would hide if I unclicked the option "show flashing on taskbar apps" option in the settings (it is just one setting away from the non-functional "automatically hide taskbar option").

This is how I fixed that annoying issue on several PC's at work/home.

Thanks, Corrine! I'll give it a try!  And thanks, xrobwx71, for confirming it worked for you.

This solution fixed the issue for me.  The hide taskbar function worked all day today for me without a hitch.  Thanks, again.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it sure seems like Microsoft should have been able to fix this issue by now, either with a warning, or the automatic disabling of "show flashing on taskbar apps" option when "Automatically hide the taskbar" is selected.
