Hi, mare_wbpa.

Welcome back. :)

You mean that you did a scan using Malwarebytes?

Did you remove the detected items?

Do you have TotalAV installed?

I read that it was a good free antivirus, so I downloaded it. It's in my list of programs, but when I bring it up, it indicates that it has expired. It's on the list of installed programs.

It seems that your free trial period ended.

You can keep the free version, but I think that you lose the real-time protection.

From Malwarebytes site (https://www.malwarebytes.com/blog/detections/pup-optional-totalav):

QuotePUP.Optional.TotalAV is a potentially unwanted program marketed as a system optimizer. These so-called "system optimizers" use exaggerated scan results or sometimes even intentional false positives to convince users that their systems have problems. Then they try to sell you their software, claiming it will remove these problems.

So, mare_wpba, you have 3 options:

1. Keep the product as free but without real-time protection
2. Buy the product
3. Uninstall it and stay with Microsoft Defender which is free and built-in Windows

I would choose 3, but it's your computer, so your decision.

I will go along with your opinion. doesn't make sense to keep it installed if it's of no value. Is there anything else that you would recommend that I should do?

I will

I didn't say it's of no value. As any other security product, it has value either as a demand scanner (not paid version) or real protection scanner (paid version). Since you didn't want to pay for it, uninstalling is the best option for you now.

Code (auto:0) Select
TotalAV (OR SIMILAR)
Let me know if the procedure ran smoothly.
