Is windows 10 or Malwarebytes doing a large update today?
I am kind of scared my hard drive light been on solod for over 4 hours.
Hi, Ron. The last update to Windows 10 was March 10th (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/march-10-2026-kb5078885-os-builds-19045-7058-and-19044-7058-5738282d-0b7f-426e-a42b-bd7698ab6dbb). You can check your Windows Update folder and compare the Update History with the files in the provided link.
Similarly, check MBAM to see if has been updated to version 5.5.2.242 (https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/308492-malwarebytes-5/page/3/#findComment-1736548).

Changing the subject.
Under System Restore there was only one restore point that said
"Automatic restore point 3/31/2026 9:15 AM"
I atempted to perform a system restore but forgot to turn off Mbam so there was no system restore..
Now there is no system restore points even though I set one every Saturday.
Is the "automatic restore point" prompted by some kind of update?
MBAM doesn't remove System Restores and, no, the "automatic restore point" setting is not prompted by any updates. Rather it is a setting a user can set up as discussed here (https://www.windowscentral.com/how-create-automatic-system-restore-points-daily-windows-10).

V_V thanks for helping but you guys told ne over a year ago thta this hard drive was going bad. Every thing has ben normal untill tuesday morning when th HD light stayed on solid for 6 hours. Today the HD light just flickers constantly.

Corrine I have lookerd in Onedrive and can't find any thing that is saved.
If you have important files on your computer, including pictures you want to save, I suggest saving them to OneDrive. But those who wish to receive help will need to choose to assist and cooperate with the helpers as much as possible in order to get the problems resolved, solutions found, or adequate and reasonable alternative suggestions provided.
In order to receive adequate help you will need to follow some instructions and/or procedures and then report the results with enough detail: first for clarifying and understanding what the problem(s) is/(are); and second in order for further help to be provided.

is most likely irrelevant to the problem that you have so far described. Many programs and processes have a high impact at startup. But that is usually just for startup; after computer startup said programs and processes usually fade into insignificance or even cease from being active at all.
Moving on,
1. First what are your computer specs?
1a. What version of Windows are you running? (If Windows 10, are you receiving extended security updates?)
1b. What is your computer brand and model number?
1c. How much ram do you have?
1d. What is your disk drive capacity?
1e. How many partitions does your drive have if any?
1f. Do you have more than one physical disk drive?
2. What is your backup strategy? Do you have any backups? (For instance I back up my hard drive to two other hard drives at least once a month---one is a complete mirror backup of my main hard drive, and the other is an incremental backup of the files that have changed.)
3. From the above base information, when your hard drive light is on excessively, using Task Manager in the "Processes" tab, look at the column labeled "Disk". Is there a flashing/changing percentage listed there?
3a. (If you do not see a "Disk" column or any percent, right click on any column, then in the popup check/choose all of the choices except "Command Line" and "GPU Engine", and then still in the popup scroll down to "Resource values" and then to the right choose "Disk", and then choose "Percents".)
3b. What percentages do you see when your disk is running excessively? Using that same column scan everything down the page to try to see what is using the highest percentages. Hopefully this should indicate what is actually using the disk. Make note of exactly which programs and/or processes are using the highest percentages, and report/post those names and percentage amounts.
4. At the page Corrine suggested (" https://www.onecomputerguy.com/hard-drive-light-stays-on/ ") there are several "Checks" that you should post the results from.
4a. "Check Your Hard Drive Using The Resource Usage in Windows"
4b. "Check Your RAM Using the Resource Usage in Windows"
4c. "Check Your CPU Usage Using the Resource Usage in Window"
4d. In Windows File Explorer click "This PC" then right click your "Local Disk (C:)" and choose "Properties." In the "General" tab how much "Used space" and "Free space" do you see?
Post the results from all of these "Checks" (4a---4d)

It is not a necessary Windows process. Disabling it will not affect the core functioning of your PC.

Ok I completely forgot that there was a new Hard Drive that DR M set up for me.
It is now in the computer and spent the morning doing updates. The only strange thing is that on the update page just above CHECK FOR UPDATES it says-
"Your device is missing important security and quality fixes."
This is in red letters and has me stumped.

Under Virus & threat protection every option is turned on including REAL TIME PROTECTION.
I did find that MEMORY INTEGRITY can't be turned on it said something about drivers?
Restarted the computer and the "Your device is missing important security and quality fixes." is still there.

I searched the page for reinstall and no place on the How-to Geek page I linked says to reinstall Windows 10. Did you download and run the Windows Update Assistant and follow the other instructions in the article?

Just needed the threat of replacement to straighten it out.
