Security Alerts & Briefings / Re: Ad Blocking
« on: January 18, 2019, 12:50:17 PM »
I also don't use Chrome on Windows computers.
I use uBlockOrigin in most of the browsers and AdBlockPlus in IE because uBlockOrigin isn't available for that.

Hah, Joe must have updated it after I posted!
I guess he got reports of the Dec. version and needed to tweak things.

I don't run Win 10 so I can't test it on that platform.

Did you use the new version (updated Dec. 2018) of Replicator on Win 10?

So sorry for your loss.

I don't run Windows 10 but you are in fine hands here with the members that do run it.

Mine shows 14 IE items added.

As always, I'll wait to patch our four Windows 7 computers until I have images of them.

I haven't had any problems with patches (since either a Jan. or Feb patch caused a major slow down)  but I know the one time I don't make an image, something will go wrong and restoring a 3 - 4 week old image then updating everything would take more time than I have at the moment.

There are a few reports of crashes on Windows 7 and 10 from people who installed this patch.
anyone else seen this issue with Windows 10 as well? We have had over a dozen users in the last 24 hours say their machines keep randomly restarting for no known reason!

while the above was posted anonymously, someone posted that they all run Malwarebytes and Windows Defender 10.0.17134.471
It's not clear if this is the same person.
That person didn't report a crash but a 2 or 3 time reboot then the computers run normally.

This is a quote from Woody Leonhard (
You can get infected by simply viewing a bad site, but only if you’re using Internet Explorer.

If it is not your default browser, you can wait to patch.

Unfortunately if you click "Check for updates" in Windows 10, you might get an upgrade you aren't ready for.

Computer Problems, Questions and Solutions! / cab files
« on: December 15, 2018, 12:35:51 PM »
I was reading a thread at another forum and a cab file was involved.
I avoid cab (short for cabinet) files because I don't know what to do with them.

So, my question is: how does one "extract" the files from a cab file?

Firefox ESR Version 60.4 has also been released.
Thanks, Corrine. You do the heavy lifting to be sure all my browsers are kept up to date.

For those that knew the late Karen Kenworthy and used her small, but very useful programs, her programs are slowly being updated thanks to Joe Winett.
One of the latest is WhoIS; this program finds out who owns a domain name and when the registration expires.
I used to use that program  a lot - years ago.

Here is the new version
