Computer Problems, Questions and Solutions! / Re: Linux Mint - Cinnamon

Although I am a Firefox user, I don't use Linux, so I can't be much help.

Although, I cannot recommend an expert, I believe the chances of finding one are better at Scot's than here.

Security Software Programs / Re: Windows Defender scheduled scan
« on: July 04, 2021, 12:23:07 PM »
I shut my computer down, and turn off the surge suppressor, when I'm not using it.

As far as I can tell anything scheduled during the night starts shortly after the next boot.

The only time I had to do manual scans in Defender, was when I was using Mcafee, or ESET, as my primary AV.

Possible factor: I currently have "Always register Malware Bytes in the Windows Security Center" turned off.

Or you could go into about:config and set "browser.proton.contextmenus.enabled" to False

On another forum Plodr referred me to instructions that included that an more.
It even fixed some of the other changes that I was still adjusting to.

It appears that extra space between items, has been added to all menus.
Not a problem for most of them, but way too many "bookmarks" end up off screen.

I adjusted to most of the changes, but there's one that I'm finding very annoying...

The "Bookmarks" drop down menu (in the Menu Bar), appears to have put more space between bookmarks. There's a LOT more scrolling involved.

Ensuring that "Touch" was turned off didn't help.

Is there any way to correct this?

......I've just given it a go at fixing that - can you test? E.g going to (both with and without the www at the front) redirects you to the https version?
Clicking on the link you posted sent me to ... I was still logged in.

When I added the "www" it sent me to ... again, I was still logged in.

Using Windows 10 20H2 (updated yesterday) and Firefox 88.0.1 (64-bit)

When you login, is "forever" selected?

Nothing appears when I click the middle button (wheel) in a blank area. The icon remains as a pointer.  Same result if I do it on a link.  Hand icon stays a hand.
Could be a dirty or damaged contact under the wheel.
I had to retire my favorite mouse when a contact went bad.

In your place I'd wait until after the week-end, to see if the software/driver experts can help before giving up.

Another work around is to "right-click" the link, and pick what you want to do from the drop-down menu.

The scroll function of the middle wheel works fine.  Just nothing happens now when you click it.......
I wasn't referring to rotating the wheel.
Put the cursor on a blank area (not a link).
"middle click"
Does a circle containing "up/down" arrows appear, and moving the cursor up or down make it scroll?

Does "middle click" work for other functions (eg Scroll)?
If not ...
Did you try a different mouse to rule out a "wear & tear" problem?

Web News / Re: Daylight Saving Time Arrives Sunday in the States

When you consider that the airplane, and telephone were invented a long time ago.
The internet has become commonplace.

IMHO: A lot of confusion could be avoided if the entire planet stayed permanently on UTC (aka "Zulu Time").
Employers, schools, & etc could set and change their operating hours to suit local conditions, and preferences.

I can neither recommend, nor warn against it, but there's an emulator.

Before trying it, I'd suggest googling and reading the reviews.

Computer Problems, Questions and Solutions! / Re: LibreOffice Won't Open
« on: December 31, 2020, 05:34:11 PM »
...... I just hope it plays nicely with the LibreOffice on my other computer...

Do they use the same file format?

For a while I had MS Office on my machine, and Libre Office on my wife's machine.
Although Libre could read MS files, it took a little extra effort to save them in MS format.
It was much more convenient to use Libre on both.

Going WAY back in time... When I switched from Multimate to MS Word. the Multimate files became almost useless....About that same time, I switched from Supercalc to MS Excel. Every time I wanted to use a Supercalc file, I had to first convert it to 123 format, so I could in turn convert it into Excel format.

IMHO: use the same file format(s) on all your machines.

Do you have some security software running that might be clearing cookies?

For instance, once when I updated ccleaner, it lost my presets, but I didn't know it, and (foolishly) didn't check.
I lost all my logins the first time it ran.
