Security Alerts & Briefings / Re: Ad Blocking
« on: January 25, 2019, 04:45:15 PM »
I installed Ublock Origin and it seems to have done what I wanted. There were no issues.  I disabled the other 2 and will now remove them.

Thanks to all for directing me to this

When things settle down here, I will look into Ublock Origin and remove the other 2 .
Does Ublock allow removal of ads at the url level?

For some reason I added Superblock and AdBlock Plus to Chrome.  I don't remember why and I would like to remove one of them.  They seem pretty much duplicate.
I am also wondering if there is something better out there.

Computer Problems, Questions and Solutions! / My Documents?
« on: October 10, 2018, 02:43:55 PM »
I run Windows 7 Professional 64bit. My wife has the Home version. I started looking at the My Documents file when a word document we both saved came back empty after shutdown.
In looking at her Save As screen I noticed it had 2 references.  This started me looking for My Documents where it should have been saved.  Not only did it come back empty, but in many places.
Question: I discovered many My Documents on my machine. They come in pairs with 1 accessible and 1 Not accessible. Libraries, My userid, 2 other userids, D: drive has 1 that is pointed to by some of the other My Documents that come up in properties/Location.
What are all these for?  Why is one in the set Not Accessible?
Thanks as always

Thank you very much.  That is exactly what I had forgotten.

There was an application that would read one of the huge files created when running Maintenance. I believe it was the CBS file.  I can no longer remember or find it.

Windows Installer(from Programs and Features) says "The path 'Microsoft Silverlight Installation'1' cannot be found.
Other information wants to point to a CD-Rom which I never used. It has an install date of 3/16/2013.
  Windows 7 Professional 64bit.

I get the same message for Adobe Flash Player 11 Activex installed 11/14/2013.  Adobe Flash Player 29 was installed 5/8/2018.

I don't have Silverlight anywhere. I don't have Adobe 11 only Adobe 29.  Both are just hanging around.

Computer Problems, Questions and Solutions! / Register Question

A few years ago I managed to install Silverlight and Adobe Flash Player 11 Activex( I now have 29).  Neither one of them point to a file on C:. Recently I ran Wise Registry Cleaner and CCleaner(which I have used for years) and System Essentials and  I expected one of them to clean up the Register as the programs CAN'T be removed from the control panel.  I know that I could use Regedit and find the entries and delete from there, but I wonder why there is no program the realizes the entries don't point to an application.

I finally found Help on the applications.  A little sparse.

Has anyone use the System Tuneup application in this program?  I have Windows 7 Professional 64bit.  There are 33 items that are not Optimized.  There is an option that says System Default, which I assume returns those items back to the current defaults.
I can't find information about the applications also.

I was more interested in what seemed like a discrepancy. I agree the actual numbers may not hold much value.
Yes, I understand it is Enabled in Windows 7.  I was looking into the statement that it may not actually run.

I found the Windows Experience Index while looking around. 2 of the 5 items were 7.5 and 2 were 7.9 and the Disk Transfer Rate was 6.9.
My Primary Drive is KINGSTON SNVP325S2128GB ATA Device (SSD).

It has an H: sector of 100mb which is at 99mb. The C: is 52gb used of 119gb.

Why should Transfer Rate be so out of line?

Any suggestions?

I received a reply on SysNative "I use HD Sentinel to check whether trim is really active"  The referenced program that is supposed to check this "Hard Disk Sentinel" didn't seem free and seemed old.

Is it true Trim Enable does not mean it is executing on the SSD?

Computer Problems, Questions and Solutions! / Re: Skype on Ipad

I consolidated my Skype account with Microsoft. This morning I tried the download again. The cloud worked and I have it on my IPAD.  After 33 years in Computers, they still are flaky because of software designs.
Thanks and have a great new year.
