it is the soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press

it is the soldier, not the poet,
Which has given us the freedom of speech

it is the soldier, not the camus organizer,
Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate

It is the soldier who salutes the flag
Who serves beneath the flag, and
Whos coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protesters to burn the flag

I still remember one tired gi trying to get home and with no reservations around xmass time could not get home after working my way to L.A
got a buss and it broke down 100 miles from home so started hitchhiking  and a family stopped and picked up me and a navy guy, they were going to the next town (Modesto) but after 15 min they decided to "visit Sacramento"
that family i remember for all they did for two military men just trying to get home

i went down to the buss depot the next day to get my duffel bag. while waiting for it a girl next to me was telling her dad about what fun they are having at UC Berzerkly protesting, she saw me and then
spit in my face and called me a baby killer

i was trembling so bad as i knew if i did anything i would kill her
her father, then slapped her and told her to wait outside and handed me a hanky

i will always remember4 him

the girl, yes i8will always remember her and wonder if her4 mother thinks of her each night in her kennel

yes i do think the American People let down all of the vets from nam!
i was payed 13 cents/hour while i was a gi, now they start off at $1500/month while in training
so some things have changed and a bit more respect for the military ( or did they realize ho9wthey treated us?

next time someone spits in my face i don't know what i will do , but when gulf war 1 started and there was going to be a anti-war protest complete with flag burning i did what was right
went there, found several other4 vets and we talked to the punk with the flag and told him if it catches fire that will be the last thing he remembers
and yes my flag is flying at home since sunrise and will be lowered at sunset
as i got older i did mellow out a bit, but still have deep feelings for the girl at the buss depot

so as you go to school, work 9 to 5, just think about all that worked 12 on and 12 off and got one deay a week off ( unless we were needed)

well this might be my last time here

hi corine and the gun ;-D

the election is over with
i am sure it will be up in the courts soon
explain the justification in defacing churches because prop 8 was not defeated?,valdalism, blocking traffic
what is the difference between what i posted in the wiki and what you want?
i did not see you mentioning the other states that have voted on it?
you have the right to do what you want, i have my rights, does this mean you get the right to change what we voted for?
the majority of people ideas don't count and you have the right to do things your way?
should i have the right to marry my dog too?

i thought this was a non political site, but guess not!

as i posted before and sent off a PM i no longer want to be associated with this site

FYI domestic partnerships are allowed in california and have been for years

in california we do not allow "partner 1 and partner 2"        but man and woman

and when a teacher can take her kids out of class to watch a gay wedding and the parents didn't know about it i think that is wrong !

now i left a while ago cause i spoke my mind about Ubuntu and not the glories of windows

and see this post which i think is a bit over the line on politics
and this is california not any other state

so i would like to be removed from the membership here NOW
thank you

well i will really get worried when the faa authorizes it for auto pilot

there are places in life where a blue screen or hacked system are not that good a idea ;-D

So how 'bout it, mitch, will you sponsor me?

i'd like to, but right now all i can do is give moral support

this is suppose to be best times with ira and ssi
but ira just went down the john and not much left but  maybe a year, and my wonderfull company that promised me medical insurance when i retired just sent me notice it is canceled jan1
so it is a bit interesting here now
and when you see me cutting back on pepsi you know it is exciting here
after 7 years of romen noodles i thought i would never have to eat them again ;-(

so i wish you good luck and strong legs

it is a HUGE improvement from the 2k box I have been using.

yep i bet it is !, if you have the pro and a powerful system it is probably ok?
my main beef is not much did change, and the original longhorn was going to have a new disk system.
i'm not into eyecandy and just got a bit tired of getting a new computer and os every few years.

didn't mind the change from win98 to XP as that was a major improvement but vista seems like a win ME?

maybe the next version of windows might do it for me? but i do love my open source and in no hurry to sepnd a few hundred dollars for programs anymore ;-D

i have a cheap vista home box with a AMD 3200 and 2 gig of memory and it seems ( being polite) a bit slower than my old 1.7 gig 1.5 gig memory xy system?
vista is
running in classic mode, no video options, no index and don't know if it is microsoft defender/AGV or what that slows it down?
i do know that when i turn it on i just wait for windows to check and avg to check before i can do anything

ok everyone probably knows about it  but if not

dns is what takes and turns it into a ip address ( words to numbers)
your isp is the first DNS in the system
BUT not all ips's are the same!
remember about a month ago when that bug was found in dns servers that could take you to bad places
well open dns had theirs done
BUT when i ran the test on a neighbor's system ( att/yahoo) found one of their servers that was not patched and tried to alert them but "support" just didn't care

it is easy to change your DNS server, here is the easy way

and if you wonder if "the net is slow" cause it takes a long time to "looking up" well you just enter this in your address bar and you can check on the status of all there servers ;-D  ( that is my home page on firefox) (that page will load even if all dns servers are down)

and like open source it's free

if you do get a 404 error they show a few googel ads

been using it for about 1 1/2 years and love it
always up and fast ;-D

ubuntu is nice to look at, but if you want a ~real~ os, try vista!

i am being polite and i did erase my original reply ;-DD
i still remember what happened last time ;-DD

but i have found some great uses for all those old 1.? gig processors and 512 of memory, that went obsolete a while ago ;-DD

yep your worst nightmare is back to haunt the hallowed halls of this forum ;-DD

took a bit of a vacation

whats new with me?

well i am still with UBUNTU, think it is a great OS and love the price and support ;-DDDDD

bobby  ( bobo the wonder doggie) has as gray beard just like me

SSI and me are finally friends so living in the lap of comforts now  ( ok i will be honest maybe a mobile home isn't for everyone ;-D)

and i have a custom truck on the way ! ok i got a truck and did a few things to it, BUT a major manufacture listened to me and i will have the only Regular Cab tacoma with wheel to wheel nerf bar/steps and one step in the back so i can get to my truck box ! so now i will be able to get in it
( note this is a 2007 tacoma new on oct 5 and trying hard to get 1K miles on it by oct 5 this year !
now would be a great time for a cheap shot about a operating system that toyota uses. they told me my truck was out of warranty as i have not had a oil and filter in 12K miles and they have checked my odometer and agree it is right but can't fix their software for someone that doesn't drive much !

so i'm back but will not discuss operating systems anymore ;-DDDDDD  did i hear a big sigh of relief on that statement ;-D

now where the heck is ripley?????

vista basic  ( for 2 weeks as it seems a 3 gig processor serial drive and 1.5 meg of 55o mhz ddr was not enough to make it fast as my win98 box)(came with the box)
win xp
winm98 with VLC for multimedia and Open Office for word processor stuff
ubuntu 6.06 with VLC,open office, free flash, open source java, firefox,t-bird
ubuntu 6.10    "         "
ubuntu 7.10"      "    "
and thinking of loading ubuntu server edition ( apache)
like the speed of Ubuntu as don't need spybot, spywareblaster, windows defender, ccleaner, defrag, reg cleaner
and still trying to figure out why ms wants online everytime i turn on my computer ( with updates disabled)

ya i think she is light on memory first of all
my thinking
she has 256 meg
she has a on board video card so sharing 32 to 64 meg of memory
so now she is at only 200 meg which is real light !!!

and did you ask what she has in all the disk space?
ccleaner should have gotten rid of all the easy stuff ( temps and such )
but wonder what she is saving in the rest?

i have 1 gig on my xp system ( memory is pretty cheap)
and i don't even use a PF on the disk
so that is why i am hinting no matter what more memory should bring life to it !

just an idea
if so far everything shows good on the anti-crapwere

what does she has that has taken so much space??? videos mp3's?

don't know the specks on the computer but i know that 256meg is a bit on the light side of memory !
i suggest 512 for a min !
how many programs does she have running?
check it out before you have her do it
a bill gates salute (ctl/alt/del)
and then look at that window and see what she has running in "applications" and then one tab will show a graph of cpu usage and memory and "PF" how does that look ?

that will show how the memory is doing.. remember when she runs low on memory she will start using the hard drive as memory and that slows things down a bunch !

and remember only 1 av per customer ;-D
you only want to have one anti virus program running or they fight with each other !

and on the avg anti-spyware it is a free trial with ALL features and that is active monitoring and that can slow things a bit too?
i have that part disabled and just use it as a scanner.

is she running microsoft defender? ( that sucks the life out of my old xp system)

i have my xp set up in classic mode ( faster)
and i disabled "indexing" and that helps too
might look on my page  in my signature and look at SOME of the xp settings?

now it would be nice to see a HJT log?
do you kinow how to talk her through it ?
here is a link, just make sure to tell her DO NOT LET IT FIX ANYTHING !

and if that doesn't work plan B

HiJack This HJT is a very powerfull program, but not for a newbie ! Most support sites will ask to see a HJT log and that can be a problem for a newbie, so i have two ways to do it
a.Download HijackThis© Merijn from:
b.At the download prompt, choose "Save". After the download is complete, navigate to the C:\Program Files\HijackThis folder and double-click it to complete the installation.
c.Double-click the HijackThis icon on your desktop. Choose "Do a system scan and save logfile". The log will open in Notepad and you can copy/paste it in a topic at the forum you use.
d. If you do it the above way you will not get into trouble, if you try the "OLDIE WAY" you can just install it in a temp file and will not be able to recover anything you remove ! and a big "thanks" to "the Gun" for the above info.

to anyone that wants to post this on any other forums

if you go here this is the code i used so just copy and past in a forum and it should work fine !!!

if you have problems, it is probably that the other forum doesn't understand the "center command"
so just remove it
(it is the first and last word and brackets on the first line)

BBC  had code that is suppose to work on blogs, but it doesn't work in forums ;-(

come on, lets support the cause, i'm not into political things and don't usually do these things, but this is not political !!
