Security Software Programs / Avast Antivirus
« on: December 07, 2007, 02:25:43 AM »
 :hammy:

A 2nd "Vote" for Avast ; it has 7 "Providers/Shields" and EXCELLENT Support Forums.
Before choosing your "Replacement", it would be wise to read a products "FAQ"s
  and Avast's is at www.avast.com/eng/faq-avast-4-home-professional.html .

For quite a while, Expert Eric Howes, now the Director of Research at Sunbelt
Software, the Makers of CounterSpy, has placed Spybot in his 2nd Tier of
Recommended antiSPYWARE programs . More and more Malware-fighting Experts
are recommending the FREE version of "SUPERAntiSpyware", available from
www.superantispyware.com . I have this program and AVG AntiSpyware and
SpywareBlaster as my antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN "Defense" .

Analysis and Malware Removal / "Winfero"
« on: February 05, 2007, 03:29:32 PM »
 :D  Hi Corrine :

"Winfero" makes "Secure IE", a "suite" of some tools. I have been trying to
convince her to uninstall it . See :

       http://forums.pcworld.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=17995  .

 :D  Hi Corrine :

I met "PCNewbie" on the PC World Forums and recommended she come here
for some expert guidance from someone such as you .

Looking at her log, it appears she already has the latest Sun Java !?

Analysis and Malware Removal / Re: win32:Zlob-SI I need help
« on: January 15, 2007, 04:57:20 PM »
 :D  Hi "Simply" :

Your HijackThis log shows you have 2 different antiVIRUS ( Avast & AVG Free )
programs running on your computer; best NOT to have BOTH "running".
Should COMPLETELY REMOVE one of them; the one you remove should also
      include using its "Uninstall/Removal Tool".

Analysis and Malware Removal / Re: something wrong
« on: December 17, 2006, 04:17:25 PM »
 :D  Hi :

Your log indicates you have BOTH the "old" Ewido antimalware AND the "new"
AVG Antispyware "running" on your computer !? Recommend you uninstall the
"old" Ewido IF you are going to keep the "new" AVG Antispyware . Grisoft, the
"Makers" of AVG, bought Ewido a while back .

:D  Hi stonekey, SpyDie & any others :

Regarding pe386 : to "cleanse" this, many are recommending using AVG
Anti-Rootkit Beta; however, I found a recommendation by Malware Expert
     "Trevuren" at http://forums.thatcomputerguy.us/ind...howtopic=19842 also
suggesting the use of "ADS Spy" with the following "Instructions" :

     "3. Run ADS Spy
Select the "Full scan (all NTFS drives)"
Click "Scan the system for alternate data streams".
Once the scan is complete, select the rootkit driver ADS from the scan result (pe386)
Click "Remove selected streams".

4. Next, go to Start Menu > Run
Type Regedit and press Enter key.
Here, navigate to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\pe386.
Right-click on this key (i.e. on pe386) and select "Delete".
Exit from Registry Editor.  "

Any value as to the "situation" in this thread ?

Analysis and Malware Removal / Re: Malware in Active X problem
« on: October 16, 2006, 04:41:41 PM »
 :D  Hi :

I see you took my advise on the nerdhelp forums to come here; a wise decision.
However, on nerdhelp I also mentioned the Spybot forums and a visit there
reveals you have posted exactly the same thing on both forums. Based on what
the Experts here say, probably it is best if ONLY 1 "group" of Experts provide
      assistance !?

Analysis and Malware Removal / Re: Help may Virus from Avast found?
« on: October 08, 2006, 11:20:31 PM »
 :D  Hi "Kamp" :

You must have seen one of my posts on the Avast Support forums about coming
here !? The advise you have gotten here is Excellent; in fact, I do not recall
EVER seeing such an extensive post about the Avast Chest on the Avast forums
      that Ripley shared .
My concern is with the "quality" of the Avast program on the computer, namely
are there 2 DIFFERENT Avast Icons in the System Tray ? Has the "VRDB" been
"generated" ? This is important now that Avast has detected malware and/or you
have "items" in the "Virus Chest" .
And since you now have AVG Antispyware, a-squared Free, and Spyware Doctor
on the computer, most likely the recently ( 3 days ago ) "delisted" ( from
Spyware Warrior's "Rogue/Suspect" List ) "SpywareBegone" should be
      uninstalled !?
I wonder as to the advisability of having 3 different antispyware programs
providing "real-time" protection !? Should not 2 of them have their "real-time"
     "turned OFF" !?

Analysis and Malware Removal / "Old" version of HijackThis
« on: October 08, 2006, 10:20:39 PM »
 :D  Hi Zumlif :

      I see you took my recommendation on the pcmag forums to come here;
      very good . However, you are using an "old" version ( 1.97.7 ) of HijackThis;
if possible, should uninstall it, then get the latest version by going to :
       http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe and following the
"Instructions" in SpyDie's 1st post about "properly" installing it .

Analysis and Malware Removal / Re: Hijackthis...
« on: September 04, 2006, 06:35:47 PM »
   Hi Corrine ( & SNOWHITE ) :

I already told SNOWHITE that on the Avast Support Forums ; please give her
more specific advise !? Should SNOWHITE be concerned with her brother's
portion of the computer, since she told me he thinks having even an AV is
        an annoyance ?

   Hi all :

   I am the friend who recommended SNOWHITE come here for an "Evaluation";
we met on the Avast Antivirus Support Forums . She uses "E" Drive & a portion
of "D" Drive, while her brother uses "C" Drive and the other portion of "D" .
