Computer Problems, Questions and Solutions! / New Router Security???
« on: June 23, 2019, 09:16:12 PM »
I had to replace my router. When I originally set up the original I had no clue about security using WiFi. After 3 weeks I got a call from my ISP asking me if I illegally downloaded a movie. I had no idea what they were talking about. The movie that was downloaded wasn't something I would watch. She then asked me if I took measures to secure my WiFi. I had no idea that was even an option. Apparently I had been hijacked. I can't seem to find a way to secure my current router. Asking for help on this issue.

I didn't know if I should but I started a new thread on this issue. Everything was going well since I was here with this same issue a couple of weeks ago. I did try connecting with the cable from the router with no success. Just prior to this latest connection problem I was trying to get to do an Avast scan. I noticed that the icon indicated that it wasn't active. When I tried to do a scan it would get so far and stop. That's when the connection was lost and I wasn't able to reconnect.  I tried to uninstall Avast but it won't uninstall. I'm mentioning this in case it is connected to my connection problem.

Hi Team, It's been a while and that's a god thing, since I haven't needed your help in a while.  This is the computer I'm asking about.Toshiba Satellite
Intel® Pentium® N3530 Processor
Windows 8.1
8GB DDR3L 1333MHz memory
Intel® Integrated Graphics
500GB HDD (5400rpm, Serial ATA)
DVD-SuperMulti drive (+/-R double layer)
Starting yesterday it's been disconnecting from internet, usually while going from one site to the next.  It has done it randomly and not just from any one site. Yesterday I tried every thing, Mbam scan, Avast scan, disconnecting and reconnecting, I checked the drivers and message said that the correct drivers are installed and up to date. I even called the cable Co and did troubleshooting with them.  Nothing is wrong with my cable, modem or router.  I have streaming TV service and that is working fine. Finally after about 40 tries it connected, but did the same today, but reconnected more quickly with only about 5 or 6 tries. Hoping for some help or else confirmation that my computer might need to be replaced.  To the best of my recollection, it's about 4 yrs old.

Computer Problems, Questions and Solutions! / Password Lost
« on: February 10, 2017, 11:56:12 PM »
My Niece got a new Apple computer to start college and gave me her old one, that she had been having problems with, to see i could get it working better with the help of this forum.  I got it yesterday, charged it up, and turned it on.  Got to the password screen and contacted her for the password.  She can't remember it and can't locate where she had it written down.  Its a Toshiba Satellite L875D-S7332. Is there a way I can get into it without a password?

Analysis and Malware Removal / Toshiba Laptop With a virus
« on: July 26, 2016, 08:17:24 PM »
I'm asking for help for my brother's laptop.  Toshiba Satellite, approx 3 yrs old, Windows 7, Intel 1.80 Ghz processor, 6 Gb Ram, 64bit. Almost as soon as it connects to the net a red screen, covering whole display comes up and verbal info says that an adware-spyware virus has infected the computer and gives a # for Microsoft to remove it.  I called ther 3 but immediately hung up when the guy at the other end said hello, not identifying as MS.  I did a Mbam scan and it found about 2000 0bjests, which it quarantined.  I then did an Avast scan which said it was clean.  The red screen takes over the whole computer and has it locked up. Help please.

My friend has a Toshiba laptop.  It's about 3 yrs old.  I think it's running Windows 7 or possibly 8.  The computer wouldn't boot up but somehow she got it to run the "Back To Factory" option.  The computer is now running but has all kinds of problems.  The thing that has her most upset tho, is the fact that she lost all of her pictures, which weren't backed up.  I just need a guess, with the info I've provided, as to if there would be any way to retrieve the photos from the laptop whether if she does it or a pro? If you need more specifics I can get them from my friend, but I just thought I'd ask without getting her hopes up.

Adobe flash crashed today.  I checked my plugins and saw that Adobe Reader needed to be updated.  I tried to do it 4 times but the plugin update page still reads that it needs to be updated. If I try to download and install I get a message that I have the latest version. Adobe Flash reads that it's current.

I'm having problems with this laptop. It's almost 1 1/2 yrs old. Toshiba, Satellite C55-B5270,  Intel Pentium processor, Windows 8.1, 8Gb DDR, 500 Gb HDD, DVD multi drive R+/-  double layer.  It's getting slow and freezing up.  Message box pops up with a message that the program is not responding and I have the option to close it or wait for it to respond.  It usually won't respond if I go with the wait option.  Sometimes won't close when I go with that. I've done an Avast scan and also an MBAM scan with no improvement.  Help please.

I've discussed this Compaq Laptop before.  I'm currently just using it as a backup, and have been advised here to keep it updated.  I fired it up to check for updates but I can't get on the interned.  I'm getting messages that the I'm not connected to any networks and when I click to connect I get a message that Windows can't find any networks.

I've discussed this Compaq Laptop before.  I'm currently just using it as a backup, and have been advised here to keep it updated.  I didn't getting around to checking for the Vista updates when they were due earlier this month.  I had some time today, so I fired it up, but no updates appeared.  Did I wait too long?  What do I do now?  Hope the team is having a nice Holiday season.

A couple of weeks ago I posted, asking if this was a good laptop Toshiba, Satellite C55-B5270.  I didn't get it then, but Staples ran a sale on the same computer in this week's ad for $50 less.  On top of that, there was a coupon expiring today for 15% off.  I got the same computer today for $110 less than it was 2 weeks ago.  I couldn't pass it up at that price.  It will cost me about $313 including tax when I get the $50 mail in rebate back.  It has an Intel Pentium processor, Windows 8.1, 8Gb DDR, 500 Gb HDD, DVD multi drive R+/-  double layer.  I don't know what software is included.  I haven't even opened the box yet.

Computer Problems, Questions and Solutions! / Is this a good laptop?

Hi team.  This is not a malwear problem, but I couldn't think of a group who would give me better advice on this matter.  I saw this laptop, it looks like a good price at $399 including rebates.  Was wondering what you folks thought about it.

Analysis and Malware Removal / Compaq Laptop May Be Infected
« on: December 04, 2013, 03:46:59 PM »
Hi team.  Some of you may remember me, you helped me a few months ago with my Compaq desktop. I was having trouble installing the SP3, among other issues. Ravencajun referred me to Lzd. I'm back with problems I'm having with my Compaq Presario laptop CQ60, AMD Athlon processor, 2 GB ram, 280HD 136 GB free, using Firefox.  I did a MWB scan yesterday, updating MWB b4 the scan, it detected 10 objects, which I deleted.  Today I seem to be getting more popups than before the scan.  The laptop is also slow and has been freezing up.  Bellow is the log of the scan.  I'd appreciate any help you can offer.
