Jokes / The fix
« on: August 11, 2017, 01:04:08 PM »
I know a guy who knows a guy, who knows a guy, we know how that goes, that constantly seems to need there computer fixed.

His friend was willing to help him with the problems. He went to his house and found that it was full of malware and viruses. His friend cleaned and resolved the issues. He then cautioned him about just clicking and downloading everything he see's. A few days went by and his friend called again, having the same type issues. This happened 4 more times within a few days of each other. He was cautioned about being click happy and it was explained him that he not keep on doing it each time.

On the 7th time the guy showed up to his friends house. This time he had a BFH (Big F'ing Hammer)
His friend being somewhat puzzled when he saw the hammer, then ask;  what is the hammer for?

Internet / Image hosting site

Post Image is a pretty good site, you don't have to register, to use it. If you want to save pictures, then you would need to register.

I know some people do run into problems or have update issues, etc. It really hasn't been discussed much that most Windows troubleshooters were added to the system app.

Go to your settings, then update and security. On the left side you will see Troubleshoot.

The most common issues are most likely going to be listed here, i.e. Windows Update, internet connections and many other problems like blue screen, hardware and devices.

If you run into problems with Windows 10 it's a good place start.

This is quickly becoming annoying and will only get worse. Companies like these are low lives.

There is many more. This is simply probably the worst form of spam, ever created.

What does the National Do Not Call List do for consumers? It provides a list to all of the unscrupulous scumbags out there pulling scams or spamming your inbox text now on cellphones, with a valid phone number list.

1) Who is it from? Why would Apple use a hotmail account? Why would Apple use a account from France for a US contact. Pretty Bogus from the beginning.

Phishing, Spam and Hoaxes / Fake Firefox update in the wild
« on: March 04, 2017, 07:08:21 PM »
This has probably been discussed before, but this fake update is still running in the wild.

Most here know to never accept a unknown source popup and/or download. I was leaving a legitimate site when it popped up.

This malware (malvertising) fake notices get triggered by code contained in ads that are displayed on otherwise legitimate websites you are visiting.

The full article is located here:

P.S.  This adverted the Firefox popup, Ublock, firewall and anti-virus. I downloaded it on a test machine, and didn't install. then scanned the file with numerous anti-virus programs and they all failed to detect it as Malware.

General Software News, Updates & Discussions / WOT is really a joke
« on: September 16, 2016, 02:58:47 PM »
I am figuring out that Web of Trust is really a joke. There moderators are more interested in deleting post, than actually reviewing a malicious site.

There is no simple way of providing information and they will not respond or take any actions if posted to the forums. They will either hide or delete the post.

This is basically allowing a now malicious site to continue with a good reputation. They need to take a step back and review the sites there recommending as safe. Websites and domains change, and fall into other ownership. The model there using lets a previous known good site that is no longer safe continue with the same previous good rating when it's actually no longer safe sites. I have found a number of sites like this. I have also found that safe sites are being rated as bad.

Where are they falling short? There not evaluating sites themselves, not checking site reviews, not providing a good source for members to report a site problem. Waiting for other site evaluation software to provide them updates.

I have also found that safe sites are being rated as bad. If I would want to hurt my competition, I could get a bunch of people to rate the site as a bad site. The scenario of design and support leaves it as a not so reliable source.

I chose to download an ISO update today as I have a number of systems that need to be upgraded.

The desktop system failed to update because of a third party security software. I uninstalled the third party software and the update ran with no problems. This is the same issue as the original Win 10 update, fix disable or uninstall (recommended third part security programs) anti-virus or firewalls.

Other obvious issues noted:

Edge extensions not showing in Windows store at this time, if using the get extensions option from within the Edge Browser.

This system is a fully upgraded Win 8.1 system, no Windows preview ever used or installed on it. Windows is activated, but in bright red lettering, it states "Your insider preview build settings need attention. Go to Windows Insider Program to fix this issue." located under Windows updates. Did Microsoft fail to remove the insider preview from the full version upgrade? Does this mean the wrong ISO is being distributed on Get windows 10 or the sight has a preview ISO loaded?
I don't have the answer, a bug or just overlooked.

I will test it, but will roll this system back, because I have no plans to run a preview edition on it. I have never used a Microsoft account with this system, it is local only account. I do have another system I run a preview on.
