Computer Problems, Questions and Solutions! / Missing Items on Start Menu
« on: September 10, 2012, 07:58:38 PM »
Hopefully somebody can help!
My friend has lost all programs on her Start Menu - she's tried to
System Restore but no luck.

It happened after removing an application - however she can't remember what....

It's a Windows 7 home premium laptop, 64bit.

Afternoon all;

It's that magical time of where I proclaim my boredom with my current keyboard and mouse. It happens probably once every three years - but I just becoming frustrated with my fingers not wanting to type anymore.
Anyway, I'm a keen fan of the Apple Keyboard - for it's slim buttons, it's the pricetag that puts me off personally (I'm a poor just about to graduate student )

The only requirement is that it has to work on both OSX and Windows - not a major issue with the hardware now-a-days but still worth noting.
Oh, and probably a wireless / bluetooth solution too.

Any recommendations are gratefully received!

Computer Problems, Questions and Solutions! / Windows Vista Problems
« on: December 23, 2007, 08:48:15 AM »
Right, I thought I had this solved, but it's somehow come back....

I currently have a Toshiba laptop, which was running Windows Vista Basic.... I've been having a few problems, so I decided to do a clean-install, and then to upgrade to Windows Vista Premium; I was extremely pleased when I didn't have any of the problems that I had before; however, over the last week, it seems that the said problems have returned. And the only thing that I have installed is Windows Updates.

Problems are:
Bluescreen when deleting large files, (BAD POOL HEADER) &
Random Crashes announcing BAD POOL HEADER

I'm currently at my last resort, I was going to try to do a system restore to as far back as possible, but the restore points that I try are not working, (informs me that it wasn't successful); and since, the restore points do not go back far enough to produce IMO a difference.

I'm now tempted to re-install yet again.... However, I thought I'd drop in and ask my family

Any suggestions Guys & Girls?

Andy

Now when i try and log into my MSN it tells me that a threat has been detected.

She means AVG, not MSN Messenger. And actually, I couldn't even get MSN Messenger to start up without it being in safe mode.

Right Mitch, I've tried your suggestion to try other batteries, however if anything it has got worst!

:( Its driving me crazy!

The battery warnings have become more frequent. Every 5 - 10 minutes of using the mouse!

are you using the battery that came with it?
is it a re-chargable one?

why i ask is the batteries that come with goodies are usually just a bit old or cheap ones
and a recharge battery is a slightly different voltage and can fool the monitoring with a bit lower voltage

so might just try a new good battery and see what happens?

I'm not using rechargable batteries, however, I am using the batteries that came with it. I'll try to find some batteries in the house, to try them out.

You may also need to "resync" your connection between the keyboard and the computer.  With my Logitech wireless, there is a button on the bottom of the keyboard.

I've tried that many times, and unfortunately, to no help. I have a button under my mouse and keyboard and one on my receiver.

The mouse functions perfectly fine, but the computer warns me that my wireless mouse batteries are low, after a short period of time (30 - 60 minutes)

Is there anyway in turning this feature off? Its unlikely, as windows thinks it is being helpful.

Not a daft idea at all, more logical than anything. :)

But, after restarting my computer, it seems the drag and drop functionality has been restored! So remaining is the issue the battery one.

Hey all :)

I've recently purchased a new keyboard and mouse.... so of course, I decided to treat myself to Wireless, Optical and well, a Microsoft one!  :hysterical:

I brought a "Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 1000" at so far very pleased with it.

However, I have seemed to of lost the drop and drag feature in windows  :( I can not drag a link from Thunderbird (for example) into firefox, it just shows a circle with a line through it as the cursor.

The problem, may not be my mouse, I have been optimising my XP, so it could of been something there; following these instructions: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html

As well as that, I have an error popping up, informing me that my wireless mouse battery is low. But if i go and check the battery level, in the Mouse settings, it shows "Good" for the battery.
