Security Software Programs / Re: 28.8 does not show disable programs

Thank you Bill.

WP 28.9 is installed and working as always. Like a charm :goodie:

It is my experience that rarely something is wrong with Scotty so as a long time user I get a little worry that we XP users are left behind with all the upgrades. I know that I must upgrade my OS, eventually, but I still have 7 more months of life in this old workhorse

Thanks also to Corrine who have also read my posts and answered them effectively.

Thanks Corrine.

Not fun of Facebook. I remember I used to pay a little extra to not be in the phonebook so I do not see why I have to be in facebook. Old fashion I guess.

OK I just reinstalled WP 28.8 and still disabling startup programs does not show as such in the program. If it is designed as it, I do not know how to remember which programs were disabled. Do we have to make a remember note and stick it somewhere ?

I also found out that the Registry Monitoring is missing the default entry locations it had before. I imagine is because of this ?

" The WinPatrol setup program will no longer launch  regedit  as part of the install process. In the past, regedit was used to set some useful examples on how to use the feature that allows WinPatrol to monitor any registry location. Launching regedit was not acceptable to some secure systems and with so many different versions of Windows not all of our examples were useful on all platforms. A help file is still easily accessible on the Registry Monitoring tab.
(All Users during setup. PLUS required for custom registry monitoring.)
"

Any feedback about the Startup programs issue is welcome. Thank you.

Security Software Programs / Adwcleaner v. 3 detecting InstallMate.
« on: August 23, 2013, 09:29:18 PM »
I thought detection of InstallMate was fixed in version 2, but version 3 is detecting it again.

This new AdwCleaner has the option to uncheck Installmate for deletion, and while you do not uninstall AdwCleaner you have a quarantine folder to restore any file, but still... It should not be detected.

Being AdwCleaner Forums in French it is a little hard to know were to report this.

Thanks Corrine for asking around.

... Personally, I no longer find it necessary to uninstall WinPatrol when updating to a new version.

No, no problem either since one can reinstall WP on top or use the removal tool. Just letting you know so Bill, or in this case you, can get in touch with AdwCleaner to whitelist Installmate.

Thank you again.

Security Software Programs / InstallMate and AdwCleaner
« on: July 15, 2013, 10:10:56 PM »
Hi Bill.

There is this program for cleaning bars and adware garbage call AdwCleaner that is used in a few sites for removing malware, like in Avast! Forums. Well, AdwCleaner is detecting the InstallMate folder and removing it. Even though the folder recreates itselft on reboot, the file setup.dat does not. This file seems vital to uninstall WinPatrol.

I am very sad. Two features that stopped working in WP 20 are still nonfuntional in WP 2012. I am glad that the cookie filter is back again, but " Kill Task " is an important feature.

Any news about them ?.

Regards.
