Οι Χαρταετοί & Ο Χασαποσέρβικος  The Charterhouse and the Butcher

I enjoyed this the best. Thank you for all the links. I listened to all 3.

v_v, thanks for your thoughtful assessment of the thread. I stopped reading when it seemed to be fighting. There is enough fighting about almost any topic brought up that I tend to tune out most arguments. (I stopped watching the national news; I rely on headlines to let me know what the latest fight is about.) I do watch the local news daily.

My very biased opinion: on a good day, MoonChild and his sidekick Tobin are abrasive. On a bad day, it gets worse. I've moved away from Palemoon and only briefly tried MyPal. Our XP computers don't go on the internet.

False alarm. User error!  It turns out I did not update my laptop; even though my notes indicated all were up to date. It was still running 4.4.3. I don't know how I missed that one. I usually update my two before tackling my husband's two computers. His are up to date and so was my desktop.

I hope it helps. I can't run the support tool because 3 of the 4 Windows 7 computers don't have NET 4 and I was unwilling to install it.

I did find this when someone complained about the notification of updates in the free version.
If you right click on the MB system tray icon, you will see "Start with Windows" with a check mark next to it. Click it to remove the check then click quit Malwarebytes.
That should stop the popups. If you scan, you do have to remember to turn MBAM off again.

Since last night (after 11 pm) one of my computers keeps telling me there is a new version waiting to be installed.
I was just at the forum and haven't seen anything about it so I'm holding off installing until I find out what version and if there are problems. So as of now, I have an annoying popup on my laptop! All the computers have v 4.4.4 from the end of July.

darksurfer, I logged in and had a look at the Malwarebytes forum yesterday. After looking through the first three pages and not seeing anything, I opted to search "network failure popup". I got no hits on that. It appears that you are quite alone in getting that error. Since that seems to be the case, I suspect it is some setting on your computer and not the malwarebytes program. Unfortunately, I have no idea where to tell you to look in networks.

Try this: open Malwarebytes and click on Settings (gear icon). Stay on the general Tab and scroll to the bottom. If you have a button that says Restore default Settings, click on it. Since my versions are all paid, I'm not sure if you have available all the settings that I do.

You didn't by any chance install a browser addon called Browser Guard? If you aren't sure, open all the browsers you use and disable it. Perhaps that is causing a problem.

 8) They can try to bribe me with chocolate but I suspect that the candy would cost more than anything they could steal from me.  ;)

Internet / Firefox ESR update
« on: July 13, 2021, 12:44:38 PM »
I was offered an update this morning. My version is now 78.12. I'm not sure what the regular FF version is and if there was a recent update.

Thanks. I no longer use PM but I haven't switched my husband's two computers over to FF yet. (I have to be sure I have all my ducks in a row before I can provide support for him.)

If he complains that he can't surf, I'll fire up FF for him.

Security Software Programs / Re: Windows Defender scheduled scan
« on: July 06, 2021, 12:15:20 PM »
That code tells you that either the scheduled scan could not be run (it was late at night so perhaps the computer was turned off) or the computer was not idle.
Thread explains what was said by Bill and v_v here

Make sure you have removed the scheduled scan you set up. In Defender be sure the scan is not set for a time when the computer is off.

Meet & Greet! / Re: Happy 4th of July

Truthfully, I'm tired of fireworks. Ever since the pandemic, idiots have been shooting off fireworks nightly. They buy commercial grade and shoot them off in crowded areas. Last week a vacant row home burned and the city is wondering if fireworks sparked a fire on the roof. The house had to be leveled.

For those, like me completely clueless as to what type printer driver is installed, here is some information

Also what version of Windows 10? (We have to determine if this issue occurred after a recent update/upgrade.)
