Analysis and Malware Removal / Windows Command Processor??
« on: December 09, 2016, 03:35:07 PM »
Good morning everyone!

Recurring pop-up box from WinPatrol that a new automatic startup program has been detected and do I want it? "Windows Command Processor"

I click the rejection button, but the pop-up has continued a few times over a period of 4-5 days.  I don't think I have a problem but assume this is not legitimate, right?

Dear Corinne,  This issue hits me at a busy time, so I will not take advantage of your generous support and instead will take to our local computer shop.  I just don't have time to work on it. My apology for wasting your time with the reply and thank you.

Best wishes, Susan

Analysis and Malware Removal / "a serious malfunction has been detected"
« on: October 01, 2016, 07:01:36 PM »
The "serious malfunction" box popped up with the 800-number and obnoxious and beeping sound. I had to shut down the computer because I couldn't get the box close or do anything else. I did not want to press the X to try to close the window. On rebooting I ran malware bites, and no threats were found, but I still Cannot use the computer because the window pops up and blocks me from doing anything even though I could run Malwarebytes. I'm using my iPad.

Well, that did it!!!

I had turned it off last night and on again this morning, which didn't help, but the restart did.

Thank you, Corinne.

When I LEFT click the start button, nothing comes up.  RIGHT clicking gives me some options in a black window--shut down, file explorer, settings, etc.

Someone else was using the computer this weekend and might have done an update, not sure.

Thank you.

When I use the computer using I.E. To go to your website I get the following:

Access to this resource on the server is denied! "

If I switch to yahoo or google I can get through.

One other question. Does the current pop up blocker need to be turned off to use ad blocker plus? Or do they work together?

Sure, I can get that, Adblock plus.

The ad just went away. I.E. Is working now.   Am I "good to go? ". Do these things just give up and go away??

I didn't click anything or call, of course, but I did restart the computer.

Ran Malwarebytes-free after it updated.

Threats identified: 0

I must have made an error typing in a website and got a pop up window "Windows detected suspicious activity on your computer."  I'm to contact them at a toll free 844 number. I tried to post a picture of the popup taken with iPhone but it must have been in an unacceptable format because I could not get it to post.

Thank you for all the help.

I have the password saved.

Is two-factor authentication the same as two-step verification?

"They" finally sent me info to reset password, so that's done and I've logged in and switched to local account log-in.

Is there a way to back out of Microsoft account?  Why would I need it?  Can I just ignore it and not use it for whatever purpose?  The whole process has been horrible, too much verification, retrieving code numbers, typing wonky unreadable letters, etc., etc.  My life was fine before, thank you!
