Phishing, Spam and Hoaxes / Re: Nightmares

I always enjoy reading about your computer stories, Ray. You'll always have "customers".

My husband tells more than a few people that if it wasn't for me, he would not be using a computer! He realizes it is hard to stay safe.
At least he knows not to click on anything so I don't have to clean scum off his two computers. He even calls me if he gets a popup about malwarebytes downloading and installing an update. I'm glad he is over cautious. It saves me lots of headaches.

For sure, keeping computers running smoothly keeps the brain active.

The more friendly and helpful sites people can find, the more people you will get to consider trying linux. So keep looking in here to see if there are any people interested.

As you know, most of the linux help sites are far from helpful! That turns people off and keeps the linux users low. It is still under 2%.

For those reading this thread and not familiar with linux, DE = Desktop Environment. It is the thing you see when you boot up the operating system. Unlike Windows, in which there is one way, normally the start/all program button at the lower left, linux has several choices depending on how much or little you want to see and install.

Here's an article explaining what DE is.

Remember linux gurus, there are people reading this thread that do not know what the acronyms mean.

For some reason, preview is not working.
Let's try some different browsers.
Well today it worked!

I read Scot's newsletter and when he started the forum, I joined on May 28, 2003. I was still on dialup at the time so it took patience to do anything beyond reading and composing email!

I posted his last PM to me but it was too small to see and preview here hasn't been working for me.

If it weren't for him and his patient and calm manner, I would never have had the courage to try linux!
In January 2008, I bought an eeepc whose OS was linux! I still have that 7" netbook. Before Bruno, no way would I have purchased any laptop or PC whose OS was anything but Windows.

I didn't see the article yet but I always tell people to try a live distro first so that a) they can figure out how to use linux and b) does the hardware like it. If they can't figure out how to get on the internet, then it is useless to them.

So any that don't have a live distro, I'd not consider recommending to a beginner. It is too frustrating to install something and not be able to figure out what to do.

Happy Birthday, Aaron!
Here's to good health!

Thanks Veterans for your service.

So, if I understand correctly, if one has a desktop and a laptop and uses the same email on both then the user folder on both devices would be exactly the same. Truthfully, I wouldn't like that. All our computers have different usernames.

A wee bit OT question.
My husband doesn't have a MS email account so if I bought a new laptop for him with Windows 11, I'd have to open a MS email account for him before he could use the laptop?

For me, I'm done with Windows. Between my chromebook and 10" android tablet, I can do the little I need to do.
