This thread is not about vulnerabilities or to compare FF to IE (or any other browser).  Nope.  This is all about Firefox extensions.  Let's talk about our favorite (or not so favorite) FF extensions.

Don't forget to provide a link though so others can get to it easily.

I'll start off with one of my favorites -- BBCode

I originally found Jed Brown's BBCode. Although I've also tried BBCodeXtra, I've stuck with Jed Brown's extension.  The reason is that it also includes the option of adding up to 10 personalized extensions.  Anyone "working the forums" who uses Firefox will appreciate either BBCode extension.

BBCode Xtra:  https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=491
QuoteBBCodeXtra is an extension, compatible with Mozilla FireFox and Mozilla Suite, which adds to the context menu new commands to insert BBCode/Html/XHtml codes in an easy and fast way. BBCodeXtra suits well with all forum types, for example: * phpBB * Invision * VBullettin This extension can really simplify your life with all forums that use BBCode or Html codes when posting new messages.
BBCode Xtra Home Page:  http://www.extenzilla.it/bbcodextra/index.php?lang=ita&sez=1

BBCode:  https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=128
QuoteAdds BBCode/HTML/XHTML formating to the context menu for forums like Mozillazine.
Jed Brown's Home Page:  http://jedbrown.net/1.0/mozilla/extensions/

Jed Brown has a couple other extensions you might like to look at too.  Quick Note is another handy extension.
See this Wiki page for information on customizing BBCode:  http://wiki.logicalnonsense.net/index.php?title=BBCode:Customize#Moving_the_BBCode_Menus

Jed Brown & BBCode get the maximum 5 stars from me!

I have both those programs! :)

I also have: Tabbrowser Preferences

QuoteFeatures

The features offered by TBP are as follows:

    * open URLs in the URL bar and searches from the search bar in new tabs

    * open the homepage in every newly created tab

    * select tabs by moving the mouse onto them, instead of clicking on them

    * moving the tabbar to the bottom of the browser window

    * opening URLs from the Extension/Theme Manager and the Help window in new tabs

    * opening the throbber in a new tab

    * control the focusing/unfocusing of various tab-creating functions, such as the File->New Tab command

    * per-tab locking, to force left-clicked links to open in new tabs

    * compatibility with Tab Clicking Options

    * NEW: ability to drag and drop URLs on the new tab button on the tab bar

    * NEW: ability to divert URLs away from popup windows

I like lots of windows..... :)

well i found another super extension called
noscripts

when a page loads you have the option to block all the scripts from loading
and you can white list sites
so like landzdown is in my white list so have nothing to do
but before i would go to
tools/options/web features and turn on java scripts

and now i can see my ticker tape on bbc ;-)
and don't get a lot of the flash ads now either ;-) or the nasty things that can be done with java scripts

here is info on it

Since most of the extensions that work on Mozilla also run on Firefox, I'll add my list.
Switch Proxy Works good with Proxomitron.
Policy Manager Somewhat similar to Noscript but more versatile. You can make multiple "zones", similar to what IE has with different settings for each. Very effective on scripts and more.
IEView for those links that only work with IE.
Unclose Tab, which I use too much.
BBcode, very handy at forums.
Dictionary Search Works with several online dictionaries and thesauruses.
BugMeNot for obvious reasons.
Webmail Compose. Works great on most any webmail site.
Entension Uninstaller. An extension for removing extensions. Needs a 2nd component, which it can install itself.
I tried the Noscript extension. It didn't work with Mozilla as well as I'd hoped. Too many crashes if more than one site had a script on the page. Although it's developer said it works correctly with the new Mozilla versions, I had nothing but problems with Mozilla 1.7.11 on my unit. Had to restore to the older version. A shame. It looked to be quite good.

FWIW....Some FF extensions I've found useful........

Session Saver- Handy for returning to multiple tab sessions.
QuickTabPrefToggle- Easy access via toggle button to hidden FF tab prefs.
User Agent Switcher- Name says it all.  Works with most, but not all sites.

I'm off to find myself.  If I should show up before I return, keep me here so I'll know where I am!

Link to Tab Mix Plus
default thanks for updating the link you previously posted on the Tab Mix Plus extension!

As this thread was started back in 2005, I just quickly re-reviewed the links listed above and all seem to be good except for the homepage of Jed Brown for BBCode that Corrine posted.  The link to Jed Brown's BBCode extension at Firefox Add-ons page works fine.

Oh, and the link above for the Phantom Finds is old...maybe Phantom Tux can fix it   However, Mitch, at the time, was recommending a spell check extension for Firefox, and in the latest version of Fx...spell check is already there!

It's nice to know fav Firefox extensions continue to evolve through version changes!

Corrine

Jed Brown seems to be MIA.  His extension hasn't been updated.
