Hi, Teel.  Welcome to LandzDown Forum!

What problems are you having with your computer?

Although the entry below appears as though it is valid, because there are so many listed, I did a search for HPBOID.exe.  Copied below is what I located.  Can you check the properties of those files?

C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\HPBOID.EXE

QuoteDescription: File hpboid.exe is located in a subfolder of C:\Windows\System32 or sometimes in the folder C:\Windows\System32. Known file sizes on Windows XP are 73728 bytes (90% of all occurrence), 61440 bytes.
The program has no visible window. File hpboid.exe is not a Windows system file. File hpboid.exe is a trustworthy file from Microsoft. Therefore the technical security rating is 19% dangerous, however also read the users reviews.

My computer operates so slowly I was worried that some sort of worm or spyware has gotten to it... though I'm beginning to suspect that not enough RAM..only 512 ...may be the issue instead of or as well.
To check properties as you suggest I tried to get to the HYPOID.EXE by going to RUN and keying in the file name ...I could only find as far as \W32X86 but since I don't know my way around a computer that obviously isn't the way to get to a/that file.

Thanks,
Teel

Hypoid.exe is installed by HP printers. Its a dial home update service and not required to use the printer. Can be stopped via MSCONFIG
Win 11 Home MS Edge - WD - Mbam Pro

Teel,  Please do not remove things thru msconfig, remove it via HJT! Msconfig. although works to remove things, can cause problems later.  Msconfig is not the way to remove things from the start -up!

Hi, teel.

I believe that what is showing in your log is related to your HP printer.  However, because I had read that some malware has been known to "hide" as hpboid.exe, it seems a good idea to check at least the file size since there are so many hpboid.exe entries.

If you view details when in the C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\w32x86 folder, you should see a column for size.  If the size is as indicated in the quote above, "Known file sizes on Windows XP are 73728 bytes (90% of all occurrence), 61440 bytes", the files are valid.

BTW, I have WinPatrol Plus (http://www.winpatrol.com/features.html) and checked the hpboid.exe:

QuoteHP ToolBox – HPBOID.EXE

Hpboid.exe and hpboidps.dll install with the HP Business Inkjet printers series 2300 and 3000 as well as HP's color/mono/Ai0 laserjet printers. These files are required to run the HP Toolbox on your system. If you never use the toolbox, these felis can be removed.

You can check for the latest drivers for your HP printer at http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html.

MSconfig does not remove anything it jusr switches the service on or off. This means of course if you make a mistake it can be easily corrected.
