[DONE] multiple issues can't be removed with security software

Using WinXP/Service Pack2, and do frequent scans w/ Avast Personal SE, Spybot, AdAware, & Ewido SS, but still getting pop-ups each day. Also use CCleaner.
Of note, got 4 pop-ups right after I closed my Landsdown Forum page after viewing some posts.

Can anyone help with my HJT log? I see "files missing" in a couple Avast lines, but the program appears to be working. I have the paid version of BearShare which I would like to keep if it's not suspected of being an offending item.

frequent offender YeildManager pop-up. also Kodak Picture Software won't uninstall with XP Add/Remove and CCleaner.

Those file missing entries for avast are fine, it's just HJT has a bug that it sometimes recognises these entries as file missing.

You are missing the top part of the hijackthis log.

Hey P3-450!
Thanks for the clear details to follow.
I ran HJT and "fixed" the items you recommended and "killed the 2 processes" as well.
Deleted the ipee folder in program files and emptied recycle bin.
Dowloaded, installed, and updated SpywareBlaster. It is active.

Now in that folder you should see 2 files the same, mshta.exe

you need to delete the one which is 401,408 bytes in size and was created on 09/29/2005 08:29 AM which you can find in the properties. Make sure this is the one you delete and not the other which is the legit one.

Your log is now clean :)

Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)

Before you close my thread...2 issues!
In Windows\system32...there is only one mshta.exe that does not correspond to the one you want me to delete..any other place I can look?
Secondly, I am having major problems w/ errors in my Avast...should I post the details here, or somewhere else?

Hey P3-450!
Spent more time looking around Avast website, and identified that I was having 0000005 errors and did a "repair" thru Add/Remove programs...re-ran a scan and the errors are gone!
Not quite sure what I repaired, but it worked, so I'm happy...but more happy that you helped me w/ the fixes in my HJT log. Have now created a new restore point.

I have Avast, Ewido SS w/ paid subscription, AdAware, Spybot S & D, CCleaner and SpywareBlaster. Considering SpywareGuard, but the website says it's a, "work in process," and can't guarantee compatibility w/ other software. With what I have already, does it seem like it would be compatible, or duplication of what I have?

Looking into that link you sent me for Trillian for instant messaging. Did I get that BHO red.clientsapps from a link thru Yahoo? Will it come back beause I have Yahoo mail, and what was it?
These are just left over questions to help tweak my system with security.

Glad to hear you sorted the problem

red.clientapps installed with Yahoo toolbar and is considered as a minor.

It is basically a redirect link.

When you do a search you will still arrive at Yahoo but it goes through red.clientapps search engine

People report of slowdowns in browsers and when this is fixed things speed up.

With the applications you have now you should be fine, make sure you update and run regular scans and keep windows updated.

Do you have a firewall installed? I didn't see one in your log.

Also I would recommend that you don't use P2P apps as they are hotbeds for all types of malware and viruses.

Thanks for the heads up on the red.clientapps.
I have XP Service Pack2 and I am using that firewall.
On the P2P apps, I'm learning the horror stories, but I am using a paid version of BearShare and supposedly it isn't bundled w/ spyware.
It appears Avast scans P2P apps, and w/ the SpywareBlaster and Spybot, aren't I going to be relatively safe?
I'm am wanting it to be used for downloads only, not exchanges...need to figure out how to lock that part down.
