Web ad blocking may not be (entirely) legal

This is an older article, but I found it to be of interest. My stand is I pay for my bandwidth and I should be able use it as I see fit, not as a major business or website sees fit. I also have a problem with the the privacy issues involved with delivery the advertisements.
I think most of the security experts here remember the days of the blue screen of death, because of advertisement software basically destroying the operating system.
So, should users have a right to sue the businesses for lost revenue or cost of repairs to computer systems, due to poorly written software and adware/malware that infiltrates there computer?
