Hi Friends,
I was just looking at the LzD Updates & Alerts forum, and there's something I'm not clear on.  It looks like alerts go out from some threads/programs, when new "definition updates" are available.  And in others, it looks more like alerts go out only when new "version updates" are released.  I didn't look really closely, but I would assume that for some threads/programs, notifications go out for both definition and version updates.

I would really love to be notified about new version releases!  But I go and get new definitions for all my programs once or twice per week, routinely (the ones which offer new defs).  So I don't really need to be notified about definition updates.

I know there are some programs, IE-SpyAd for example, which don't put out definition updates, only version updates.  So one could ask to be notified, and would only receive email when a new version is released.

But for programs which offer definition updates, if one asks to be notified, they'd be getting email every week.  So for me, I don't need a weekly reminder, and such email alerts would only be annoying -- for me.

And so I'm wondering if there is any way to get email alerts only for version updates?

Hi, Brynn.

When you come down to it, not all sotware programs have weekly definition updates.  Then again, when the virus writers have been particularly prolific, there are times when there are multiple updates in one day.  (Nancy recently wrote about BOClean recently indicating that customer should watch for multiple updates.)

Alerts will only be emailed from the LzD Updates & Alerts forum if you have elected to be notified of new posts in that topic.  Thus, you could subscribe to the IE-SpyAd thread and receive an email notification when it has been updated.

The Update Moderators will frequently create a new topic when a new version of a software has been released.  For example, see avast! Home 4.6.731 Released.  If you elect to be notified about New Topics in that forum, you will receive email notifications of ALL new topics.  You can then disregard new topic notices on software you do not use.

To get notifications for new topics, go to http://www.landzdown.com/index.php/board,10.0.html and click the "Notify" button.  You will be prompted as to whether you wish to be notified of New Topics for that board.  Click Ok.  That should do it.  (Although I haven't tested it since I'm here all the time anyway.)

Thanks Corrine
Ok, I understand what you're saying.  I'll give it a try -- getting notification for new topics in that forum.  It could turn out to be too much email.  But maybe not, and definitely worth a trial  :D

You're welcome, Brynn.  Let me know how it works out.  I may need to update my post about notifications.  :rose:
