Since Eric will be leaving the U of Illinois, I suspect he will be relocating his blog and anything else he has at that site.  We'll still see Eric at Suzi's & BBR as well as popping up other places (i.e., CCSP) on occasion.

An Update from Eric
QuoteA lot of you probably saw this coming, since I've been consulting for Sunbelt over the past year. Nonetheless, I must say that when I put up my privacy and security web site at the University of Illinois over five years ago I had no idea or inkling that I would eventually take a job in the industry -- and I wouldn't have believed you if you had told me so.

While I'm on the subject of my existing projects, let me address some questions that I know will be coming up.

* IE-SPYAD and AGNIS will continue to be maintained and released by me -- in fact, I'm working on the next update right now.

* At some point in the near future, my UIUC web pages (including the download page for IE-SPYAD and AGNIS) will be moving to SpywareWarrior.com.

* The Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware page and related pages on anti-spyware apps at Spyware Warrior will continue to be maintained.

* I do anticipate still posting in forums, but as has been the case for the past few months, the volume of postings will likely not be near what they were, say, a year ago. Over the past six months a lot of my work on spyware/adware issues has shifted "behind the scenes" as it were. I'm still working every day on these issues, but the kind of work I do now isn't the kind of work that lends itself to publicity. My employment with Sunbelt will simply continue that trend.

* My insightbb.com email address will likely be shut down in the next few weeks, however, the myrealbox.com address that I have used for years will continue to work. My new email address at Sunbelt is ehowes(at)sunbelt-software(dot)com. And, of course, you can also get ahold of me by posting or PMing me in the SpywareWarrior.com forums.

I can tell you that Sunbelt is working on CounterSpy 2.0 (I was playing around with a feature complete alpha of it just last night), so this is an exciting time to start working for Sunbelt.

I guess the bottom line is this: yes, some things are changing, but I'll still be doing much the same kind of work that I've done now for years, only I'll have a team of researchers working for me now, and my work will more directly contribute to the performance of an anti-spyware application.

All the best,

Eric L. Howes

The move has been completed of Eric's website pages.  For ease of reading, the following has been "copied" from BBR rather than "quoted":

Hi All:

My personal web site at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has moved to SpywareWarrior.com. Please change your bookmarks from...

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/

...to...

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/

The download page for the IE-SPYAD nad AGNIS block lists has also moved. The new download page is:

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/resource.htm

If you have bookmarked other pages at my web site, you will find them in the same relative locations in their new home. In moving my web site, I preserved all directory structures, so for all links to sub-pages you should be able to replace...

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/

...with...

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/

...and find that the new link works. If you do discover broken internal site links or other obsolete internal references within the new site at SpywareWarrior.com, feel free to email me at:

eburger68@myrealbox.com

Currently at the old site there are manual redirect pages in all the most popular locations announcing the move. I'm not sure how long those manual redirect/announcement pages will stay in place at UIUC, so please spread the word of this web site relocation to friends, acquaintances, and other online communities that might take an interest in the privacy and security content of the site.

If you have questions about anything related to this announcement, please don't hesitate to ask.

Best,

Eric L. Howes

Of course not -- a lot of people use Eric's resources, so the more locations, the easier to find.  :rose:
