I am running a Windows 8 64bit laptop.

I installed version 28 over 26 but I now have both versions showing up in add/remove.

Can I remove version 26?

What is the best way to sort this problem (if it is one) out?

Thanks

Corrine

Hi, Kraftwerk.  Welcome to LandzDown Forum.

Have you tried the WinPatrol Maintenance and Reset Tools that was added with v28.0.2013?  It is accessible from the "Reset" link on the Plus tab.  I suggest giving that a try, using the "Remove any previous WinPatrol installs" option, illustrated in my blog post at WinPatrol v28.0.2013 Released.

Please let us know if that works.

WinPatrol 28.0 had a bug, and would not remove the Control Panel Add/Remove entry for WinPatrol 26; this was fixed in WinPatrol 28.1.   If you have the latter version, Corrine's suggestion should work.

I 'checked' the box: 'Remove previous WinPatrol entries in  the Control Panel Uninstall applet', but it's still the same, still showing both .26 and the latest .28 versions, after restarting.
Will any of the other options remove the older version?

Forgive me for asking the obvious:   After checking the box for "Remove Any Previous WinPatrol Uninstalls" (from WinPatrol's PLUS - Reset menu), did you then hit the APPLY button?

If all else fails, you can run the Win26 uninstaller that's listed in your Control Panel / Add-Remove list.   Be advised, however, that it's likely to remove the current WP version 28, in which case, you'll have to reinstall 28.   But this (uninstall "26"/reinstall 28) should remove the Control Panel entry for WP26.

Yes, I clicked the 'Apply' button.
I will try uninstalling .26 and see what happens. Thanks

Uninstalled .26 and restarted but then the Winpatrol icon did not show, so I uninstalled .28.1, restarted and installed .28.1 again.
It seems to be working alright, but I'm thinking about the registry, was it all removed when I uninstalled .26 and .28.1?

Uninstalling WinPatrol should remove "enough" of its registry entries... i.e., there should be no problems/conflicts if it left over some lingering registry remnants.   In fact, I believe it may intentionally leave some behind... for example, if you purchased the PLUS version, simply uninstalling it does not remove your PLUS code --- it's saved there for your convenience, should you later decide to reinstall it.

If you are especially concerned about this --- or other --- registry entries remaining, WinPatrol offers a dedicated removal tool, which should handle these:

This is a single program WinPatrolRemove.exe which will remove all files and registry entries created by installing WinPatrol. After running this file it will be removed automatically the next time you reboot.

Of course, it you want WinPatrol around, you will have to reinstall it (yet again) after running this tool.
