hi Brynn

i'm kinda in a bind now. my webpage is on my personel account with my ips and only 5 meg, so approaching the limits!
and to rent web space is kinda out of the question as i am still a dialupper ;-D

as far as the case and cleaning goes... do you have a digital camera?

and i just kinda put the info out there, if you want more detail, just start a topic on that and i am sure it will be answered
right now i am kinda busy on several small projects ( and believe it or not ..not web related)
and kinda need more than 24 hours in a day to do much more ;-(

RIPLEY.......if all you want is the password backup i THINK that a usb would do it ??????
but as i said i played hell making the usb floppy drive bootable !!!!! and the password disk is non bootable !!!!!!

Brynn

Hi mitch,
Oops, I didn't mean to leave you hanging here.  Somehow I missed your last reply, so sorry for the delay  :flowers:

Anyway, it was just an idea re putting up instructions for using the limited user account for security.  Just a thought, so no apologies necessary!  But why does using a dialup connection make getting more web space "out of the question"?  Because I use dialup, and have been toying with the idea of setting up a website.

Oh, nope, don't have a digital camera :(   But, to be honest, I'm just not up for delving inside the "brains" of this "beast", at present.  Like you, I'm fairly "booked up" with other responsibilities, as well.  So I don't mean to be rude or disrespectful....but I just don't feel right about :sos: (asking for help) before I've made a good effort to learn something on my own.  ...you know...?  Like ripley, I may actually be looking at adding some secondary (my word) or "backup" drives, in the foreseeable future.  So it may soon be time for me to tackle the task of opening my box ;)

Anyway, just want to post a closing THANKS for yours and ripley's help in this thread.

All best.

on my dialup i get 5 meg of webspace and i have most already used

so to put up anything big i have to download what i have/ put up a program, have the other person download it and tell me, then reinstall my website

and on a dialup throwing around 5 meg of data in several files is no fun ! and the only way i can get more webspace is $$$$

might think of finding time for the box

my idea

unless you live in a clean room with constant temp and humidity you should know how to check for dust bunnies in your computer at least once a year, can save you very big $ and your cpu will say thankyou by running at full speed and not thermal speed !

ok if no digital camera, use a regular camera and use a scanner ;-)

and you need to know a few things before getting a extra drive .... i know of one OEM box that we were going to put a cd burner in as it had just a cd rom and we opened it to see how it would go and found out there is no way to add anything to the system, too small a powersupply, no extra bay for it ! so i would have felt dumb sending him to the store with the sale and then saying, sorry hope you can get your $ back ;-)

Brynn

Ok, noted, mitch!
I will definitely keep those things in mind.  I will make time to learn how to open box and take out bunnies.  And I'll look around inside before purchasing new drive(s).  Just can't do it right now ;)
Thanks for the tips, and all the other info  :D
You're the best  !
