Hi, Kathy.

It isn't uncommon for the .lnk file association to become corrupt.  The fix provided by "WinHelpOnline" at File Association Fixes for Windows 7 should solve the problem.

  • Download the LNK fix.  (Use Right-click – Save as option in your browser to download the fixes.)
  • Unzip the file and extract the .REG file to your Desktop.  (If you need a program to unzip the download, you can use the 64-bit version of 7-zip.)
  • Right-click the REG file that you extracted to your Desktop and choose Merge.
  • Approve the UAC prompt to allow the change.
  • Restart your computer
Please let me know if it is back to normal.

Well, it seems to have worked!  My blue "e" is back and all my icons look like they did before.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!

I hope you and yours have a very Merry Christmas!

Kathy

You are very, very, very welcome, Kathy.  I'm glad I was able to help.

Merry Christmas to you and your family as well.
