Adobe has released security updates for Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.77 and earlier versions for Windows and Macintosh and Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.346 and earlier versions for Linux.  These updates are rated as "Critical".

A "security update" or new version! I know that's what Adobe calls it but if you visit the Flash website, it says I have 12.0.0.77 and the latest is 13.0.0.182.

And it sure went round and round to make the announcement - from that July 9, 2013 advisory, back to a Sept 21, 2012 advisory and then up again today.

For W8/8.1 users, it is MSKB 2942844 and I got it though WU a little while ago. Just waiting for any fallout before I install (not letting the impatient be the guinea pigs or anything ;)).

Considering that the "version update" addresses 4 CVE's identified as critical (my blog post, Adobe Flash Player and AIR Security Update), it can be called applesauce.  :D

Except I like apple sauce! Nice blog write up - as usual!

I do like it now that Flash is included with W8, and W8 checks for updates every day. But I still wish Foxit or some other adventurous software maker would come up with a viable Flash alternative to "Adobe" Flash. It seems with every security hole they patch, 2 more are found.

Thanks, Bill.

I agree.  I'd love to be done with all Adobe products.  Adobe Reader has been replaced on my computer with Sumatra PDF.  Too bad Silverlight hasn't made it as a replacement for Flash Player.

I think the problem with Silverlight is twofold (1) it is a MS product and right or wrong, many users are biased against anything MS and (2) like the silly Bing Desktop and Bing Bar MS keeps trying to jam down on us, many users don't want more stuff (even if good) "jammed" down on us with WU. :(

Note this is why I have WU set to NOT tell me about updates for other Microsoft products.
