Hi Corrine.  I am overwhelmed with all of this.  It is just getting to be over my head at this point to try to make changes with no on-site help at home that if I get into something I have no clue how to get out of it.  I do have the Java disabled.  Yes, I have Picassa, although I don't use it a lot.  I think at this point I am going to see how things go with the WinPatrol before I attempt any more things that I've never done before.  I think I could do a temp. disable for my ESET NOD 32 antivirus, but I would not know how to do that for Malwarebytes.  So, I will think all this over and see how it goes, Corrine.  Thank you so much for getting me this far.  I really do appreciate it.  I do not have your level of computer skill unfortunately.

Corrine

It is certainly your choice,  Linda.

That said, since you have Java disabled, you can set that aside in your mind for now.  When you're ready to return to this topic (and not before :) ), all you need to do is temporarily disable ESET, and then right-click on the Malwarebytes icon in the system tray and select exit, confirming the prompt to exit.

Since you are uncomfortable with making changes, if you are not familiar with System Restore, I strongly encourage you to print out and keep handy instructions for creating a System Restore Point and then how to restore your computer.  That way if you ever do make a change that you cannot figure out how to get out of, you can restore your computer to the time before you made that change.  Although support has ended for Windows XP, the Microsoft instructions are still available: How to set a system restore point in Windows XP and here's an example by "How-To Geek" with images:  Using System Restore in XP

Returning to say thank you for the links for system restore and the advice.  Yes, actually I have used system restore in the past.  It certainly has saved me a few times.  So far Scotty is looking good with his green background!

Corrine

You are welcome, Linda.  I'm glad that WinPatrol is again working properly and you have "Scotty the Windows Watchdog" on patrol.
