Or at least we can hope to see the end of it.

QuoteToday, open standards like HTML5 have matured and provide many of the capabilities that Flash ushered in. Our customers have clearly communicated that they would like our creative applications to evolve to support multiple standards and we are committed to doing that. So today we are announcing Animate CC, previously Flash Professional CC, which will be Adobe’s premier web animation tool for developing HTML5 content while continuing to support the creation of Flash content. Adobe Animate CC will be available in early 2016. In addition, Adobe will release an HTML5 video player for desktop browsers, which will complement Adobe’s support for HTML5 on mobile.

QuoteThe platform that was until yesterday known as Adobe Flash Professional CC is now Adobe Animate CC. What does that mean? According to an Adobe statement announcing the change, it’s part of an ongoing commitment to “evolve to support multiple standards,” specifically HTML5. In practice, though, the answer is: not much. Meet the new Flash, same as the old Flash, and still a security-addled, closed-off mess. [...]

I am glad that Flash is slowly ending or at least being marginalized but there are still plenty of sites that require it. Especially video rich sites, which are many. I put flash on ask mode on my Pale Moon and Firefox browsers.

I'm glad I included "Or at least we can hope to see the end of it." when I started this thread.  From the same article that siljaliane provided above, note the quotes from Jérôme Segura, Malwarebytes security researcher.  So, with the open source HTML5, we may not be any/much better off than with Adobe maintaining Flash.

Well, we can always dream about it, can't we? ::) :o

If HTML5 also has the "click to activate" feature, I'll set it to that just as I have flash set.

I feel safer if it is turned off and I decide where and when I want to see flash content.
