I didn't know if I should but I started a new thread on this issue. Everything was going well since I was here with this same issue a couple of weeks ago. I did try connecting with the cable from the router with no success. Just prior to this latest connection problem I was trying to get to do an Avast scan. I noticed that the icon indicated that it wasn't active. When I tried to do a scan it would get so far and stop. That's when the connection was lost and I wasn't able to reconnect.  I tried to uninstall Avast but it won't uninstall. I'm mentioning this in case it is connected to my connection problem.

Did you run Network Diagnostics while plugged into the router with the cable?  Did you try plugging directly into the modem?

I disconnected the wire from the router that comes out of the modem and connected it to the laptop. Waited for it to recognize the connection. The icon in the tray changed, then I tried to connect. Would not connect. While connected to the modem I did a network diagnostics and got a message that the DNS server isn't responding.

I would first unplug the router and leave it unplugged at least a minute, reconnect it to the power supply and after getting a connection connect your laptop again.  If that doesn't work, since I recall from the earlier thread that you had already contacted your ISP, you may want to do that again and ask them to refresh your signal, explaining that network diagnostics indicated that the DNS server is not responding.

If your ISP isn't able to help, see if the steps in DNS Server is not responding on Windows 10/8/7 solve the problem.

Before I call my ISP again, I have a streaming TV service, which is working fine and the WiFi on my phone is also working fine.

You wouldn't be able to access the streaming TV service without getting online so the issue may indeed be your laptop.  Take a look at the link I provided and see if that helps.

I'd try the DNS setting describe in the article.

I did the Network Diagnostics again and got to Microsoft help.  Microsoft did a scan and found a faulty network adapter and fixed it.  I'm back online again.  Thanks again everyone.
