ok i seem to have gigantic problems with this computer =P it isnt mine but the owner has absolutely no idea, so i'm making feeble attempts to fix it. i'm not sure if i should describe whats actually happening, but i'll just post a hijack this log to start? and see if the problems are obvious to anyone =) i have pretty much no idea what i'm looking at =P

Please download F-Secure´s Blacklight from here:

Add it to a folder of its own, run it and accept the license agreement. Click "Scan" and a logfile will be created in the same folder, called fsbl2006xxx.log, where the X:s are the time and date.
Copy that logfile and post it in your next reply.

this is positively infuriating =P i clicked on the download link and nothing happens, so i click on the bit which i assume says 'click here if download doesnt happen in 10 seconds' or something, and it goes to another page...where the page cannot be found! so i right clicked the link and tried 'save target as' ...which appeared to be working, til it stops and informs me internet explorer cant do it for some reason. ugh! :blink1:    :Win73:

Reboot into safe mode (press the F8-key repetedly on bootup) and delete the following files and folders, in bold text :
C:\WINDOWS\ sysvx_.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ sndmixex.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ pptp32.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\>>> Check first to see that there aren´t any of your documents in this folder, but I suspect this folder is created by the malware

In order to find them, click (Windowskey+E) and in the toolbar click "Tools>Folder options" and under tab "View" checkmark "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected system files" and "Hide file extentions for known filetypes"

Reboot normally and now see if you can connect to F-Secure and  download Blacklight.

hi again =) cheers mate for that! i had a good go at it, but for some reason those despicable two entries in hijack this refused to delete. i'd delete them, and then rescan, and hijackthis would list them again in the registry.

these two entries:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: pptp32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\pptp32.dll

And interestingly enough i couldnt even find the actual pptp32.dll file to delete it. it was nowhere to be found!

I was wondering, are windows software downloads and updates affected by being in safe mode? because that is the only mode i'm capable of operating in now, with regards to the internet, and i thought maybe that along with the viruses is stopping me from being able to connect to the backlight site. I can't really do much of anything in normal mode, the virus keeps popping up (various apparently useless antivirus programs keep informing me of this =P ) and seemingly blocks my internet access randomly. sometimes sites will be working fine and then unexpectedly just stop being able to connect. I'll include another hijackthis log seeing its been a while since i posted that one, see if there are any new dodgy entries to pick up on =) thanks a lot again for your help.

1. Make sure you run your computer with Admins priviliges.
2. Go here and download "Avenger":

3. Extract it to a folder of your choice.
4. Download the avengerscript.txt below and add it to your desktop.
5. Run the Avenger
6. Checkmark Load script from file and click on the folder icon and navigate to avengerscript.txt on your desktop. Click once upon it and click "Open" and the filepath will be visible in the Avenger panel.
7. Now click the traffic-light icon and the tool will run the script and you will be prompted to reboot immediately.
8. After the reboot a logfile will be created in C:\Avenger.txt. Also a backup of the removed files will be located in C:\Avenger\backup.zip/b]
9. When the system has rebooted, please post a new HiJack This log together with the Avenger.txt

  IMPORTANT: Those instructions are for this infection and for this user ONLY. Do NOT use it in any other system.

die hard! it was all going so well! slight technicality!!  :confused:  :Win73: things were going really well! in normal mode the computer was working quite well! ...i'm not sure if this is related to any of the viruses, or whether its an unfortunate unrelated mishap thats just happened at the same time! the computer was running well in normal mode last night, when the house had a power out. when i went to turn the computer back on, it rebooted, but it interrupted reboot to inform me that windows hadnt shut down properly (because of the power out i suppose), giving me the options to return the computer to its last known good configuration, or to start it in normal mode, or safe mode etc. i've tried every one of these options, but what happens is, it doesnt boot in either of them!! the computer just restarts again, goes back to the same screen, choose any of the options, computer restarts all over again, endless cycle. i am using internet on a different computer currently. if it wasnt broken before, its a whole lot more broken now!  :tease:  :blink1:  :sos:  :smash:   =P unless there's a simple solution i have no idea about? also, if i dont choose any of hte options and just leave the computer, it will just endlessly restart itself til i turn the power off.   :confused: its beyond my abilities now! =P not sure if this is virus related, but thought i'd post to see if you had any ideas. thanks a lot for your help  :)
