COOKIES question

 :Win73: i just read a TON of information about cookies, and i'm not sure i absorbed it all.
i'm doing my cookie settings in OPERA. (i just wrote that: oprah... funny.)
per mitch's page, my ie cookies settings are PROMPT - 1st PARTY COOKIES, & BLOCK 3rd PARTY COOKIES.
* but a few net posts re: OPERA suggested ACCEPT ALL COOKIES, 1st & 3rd PARTY, and DELETE NEW COOKIES WHEN EXITING OPERA.
* the reasoning is, Opera has a WAND function, that's very quick at remembering passwords, so we don't need cookies for that.
AND, some sites work better is you allow all cookies. (i've had trouble with PROMPT ME setting; some sites won't log me on, or give me an alert as to why.)
QUESTION:
how dangerous is it for me to ALLOW ALL COOKIES, if i delete them after the session?
ALSO: is it dangerous for me to allow COOKIES WITH AN INCORRECT PATH, or "ILLEGAL" COOKIES?
- i know this is covered on mitch's page very well re: IE, but i was curious if i'm taking chances using slightly different settings in opera.

Hi babyoh,
I know nothing about OPERA.  I could make a couple of comments about cookies in general, but don't know how to translate for Opera.

I guess my best advice would be explore what's the worst that could happen if...  To my knowledge, the biggest security risk with cookies, are the tracking cookies -- from the time you're on a site, that cookie could be gathering and/or sending info, even if you delete afterwards.  There are several other reasons some people don't want cookies, not necessarily security-related.

Another thought might be to evaluate how much you trust the sites and/or authors of the info about Opera, suggesting to allow all cookies.  If you feel like they are reputable, honest, and have no stake in spyware...maybe they're right?

Last note -- allow some time to "digest" all the new info that you just read.  Wish I could be more help.  Hopefully others will be along to post, who know about Opera.  Good luck!
