I updated my Adobe Flash player to version 10.0.22.87 as recommended in both FF3 and IE7.   I didn't remove the old version first, and the installer didn't prompt me to.

I just did a Secunia scan which shows both versions are present, but in my add/remove programs list there is only one, so I"m not sure how to uninstall the old version.

What should I do?

(o, and BTW...my secunia program would not load for some reason, so this is from the online scan)

pastywhitegurl,
I alway recommend you un-install then install your new program .
So I suggest you Download a fresh copy to your PC (Remembering where you downloaded to)
then go to your Add/Remove and remove the old version some time it is then best to reboot your PC (But thats as I say what I do)
before installing the new version.

Q: does it work
A: It does seem to for a few hours at least.

Here the link to the latest Adobe Flash Player. http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

I run IE 6.0 so can only comment on what I do. I do not uninstall the previous Flash Player when I want the latest, I download and install, then verify from this link http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

The secret is to have all your open browsers closed before installing the latest version 10,0,22,87.

I then double check in Add and Remove and there is always only the one, the latest showing in the A & R utility.

Let us know if this helps you.

I'm still confused, as the Secunia scan shows I have THREE versions....and yet my add/remove programs is only showing one.

I guess I unintall the one, and the re-update both FF3 and IE7 again?

If that happened here on this PC, I would uninstall all of them, and start again, following the threads in my previous post.

In my Add and Remove (for what it is worth) I have two showing:

  • AdobeFlash Player 10 Active X
  • AdobeFlash Player 10 Plug-in - both ver:10.0,22.87

Then Adobe Shockwave Player 11 is also installed and showing in my Add and Remove.

Let us know, but start again would be my suggestion to you.

Secunia is not always right I have found over time.

You know...you may be right about that Secunia thing....I think I will reboot and then do their scan again.  Maybe there was something wonky going on there.

Thanks for that link, Temmu. I decided to be safe and just start clean.

I have successfully uninstalled everything and reinstalled the current update on both FireFox and IE.

I ran another Secunia scan and it no longer shows any unpatched programs.

yay!
