The Anti-Phorm petition on the PM's web site is now approaching its deadline. We are trying to have a final push to see if we can hit 25k signatures (currently over 21k). Can everyone make an extra effort to get their friends and family to sign it and post reminders on their various social networking sites please?

To remind you, Phorm are currently partnering with BT, TalkTalk and Virgin media so that they can intercept and track all your website browsing for the purpose of providing you with 'targetted advertising'. Advertising aside, BT ran 2 illegal trials during 2006 and 2007 without telling any of their users. Intercepting communications using 'deep packet inspection' in this manner is in direct contravention of RIPA and PECR, but at the moment this government is not taking any action as that could also scupper their own desires to monitor everything we to. A final trial by BT last year called 'BT Webwise' did offer an opt-out, but in their current implementation means that your browsing is still intercepted. Phorm were previously known as 121Media, a recognised spyware company previously responsible for amongst other things, the Aprops rootkit. I'm sure many of you can remeber the hours we you to spend helping users remove this stuff from their PCs.  If Phorm, BT, Virgin media and Talk Talk have their way, their tracking software will be installed in the ISP Networks, well beyond the reach of us to remove.  Personally, I'm not giving this one up without a fight.

Many thanks.
