hi all
i sometimes grab pics (jpg's & gif's), and MP3's from online, by right-clicking. -- i don't do any of that kazaa, or peer-to-peer kind of thing.

i thought this was totally safe, as i never heard of MP3's/WMA's, or JPG's/GIF's being infected.
however, i read something recently, about how mp3's can hide malware designed to be "activated" by windows media player (something to do with the image-video capability media player has, which hackers can hide code in).

i also read that images files -- jpg's, according to the article -- can have viruses as well.

i didn't read this online, but in a newspaper... either the new york times, or la times, i think.

ANYBODY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS?

thanks, in advance, for any comments.

Create a folder and place your downloads into that folder. When you download things you can then right click on the item and choose to scan it for viruses or malware. Most virus and spyware scans apps. show up in the listings.
