I just had a trojan try to attach itself to my computer, but MSE caught and quarantined it.  I deleted, downloaded newest update, scanned clean, did an online scanner which showed clean, then rebooted and repeated...still clean.

The thing is the MSE alert came up right after I'd clicked on a link from Google Advanced search (an innocuous search, mind, nothing that would have disturbed grandma in the slightest.)

About the past month when I click on Google AS, a lot of times I get a page warning me that Firefox is going to be 'redirected' and do I want to okay that?  A few times I did, but then got wary and started just backing out.  Usually a few hours later or the next day the warning would go away or I'd create a new bookmark and sometimes that would make the warning go away too.

There was no warning about a redirect when I used Google AS on the search when the trojan quarantine happened.
After I made sure my computer was clean, tried to get to Google AS by way of Altavista search engine....again got the Firefox redirect warning.

Updated MSE again and ran scan....clean.

Any idea what is going on?  Until a month or so ago never got Firefox redirect warnings unless I clicked on a link.  Now I'm getting them *before* I can choose a link.

BTW, the online scanner I used was Corrine-Approved so I trust the results from it.  :)

Well, as long as the online scanner was "Corrine-Approved", you did good.  :D

Personally, I switched to Bing as my primary browser some time ago as I found that there are less "troublesome" search results.  I also use the WOT add-on:  http://www.mywot.com/.  Granted, reputation-based results are based on user ratings, but that isn't the exclusive method.  WOT also uses information from numerous trusted sources, such as phishing and malware blacklists, and hpHOSTS.

You can disable the setting in Firefox by doing the following:

  • Click on Tools -> Options -> Advanced
  • On the General Tab, uUncheck "Warn me when Websites Try to Redirect or Reload page"
  • Click Ok and Restart your Firefox

We got rid of Bing when we first got our computers.  Thing was annoyingly hard to get rid of, but maybe should look into it again.

I stuck with Google because it was the only one that had an Image Search with date definitions.  (True to my sign-in name, I like checking out comic images as well as products and the date means I only have the latest come up rather than a gazillion from decades past.  Seeing the same Superman and B.C. images come up all the time gets annoying!)  :D

Had that option left ON with Firefox because I figured it made it 'safer'.  Weird that sometimes it wants to redirect Google search link pages and sometimes not.

You "got rid of Bing"?  Unless you use a toolbar (which I refuse to use), Bing is always available.  ;)

It was harder to find and stamp on than a roach, but yeah...I used that Decrapifier program.  Still can go to their site I suppose, but BING no longer shows up on my computer programs like it was tattooed on.

Edit:  Bing site saved to bookmark. :)

Took a bit of looking about but found the way to do time searches on everything (you have to actively click the time search whenever you switch between Images and Web or Video.  With Google you didn't have to as it would stay in the previous time selection.  Now that I've got that down...

Clark Kent look super.  :D  Switching main search engine to Bing.

In that case, you may want to consider Bing Rewards.  Since I do a lot of searching when analyzing logs, I've earned a number of Amazon gift cards.  (U.S. residents only.)
