Greetings,

I am new here and am really stressing over this virus, it's probably the worst one I have ever gotten and the only one that I couldn't get rid of myself. Anyway, I found it was similar to another topic which is found here http://www.landzdown.com/analysis-and-malware-removal/system-check-virus-can't-system-restore-even-in-safe-mode/

How/when it all happened:

About 3 hours ago, I was playing a game and my friend invited me to a skype call and it was the only call I couldn't join out of the 3 I was already in (not sure if any of this is helping just giving all info I can) so I quit out of skype and logged out and did about everything I could but uninstall because it wouldn't let me so then I restarted my desktop finally and then I noticed that it changed my desktop theme to a bland grey. I tried connecting back to skype and it just put me in offline mode and said I wasn't connected to the internet and I tried a system restore (even in safe more) but then a 0x80042302 error popped up (picture attached) and it refuses to system restore or acknowledge that my Ethernet cable is even plugged into it.

My computer wiz friend made me do a few things but he is limited to this stuff, he made me uninstall and reinstall my drivers which did nothing, get malwarebytes, I ran a full scan and a quick scan and it found 0 items infected every time although it wont allow me to update malwarebytes because the internet is apparently non existent. Oh and my network just doesn't exist either (picture attached). I'm not sure what to do. It  :wasntme:

Hi, itwasntme.  Welcome to LandzDown Forum.

We will do our best to assist you.  However, in order to do so, please follow all instructions provided in the sequence given.  Do not install/re-install any programs or run any fixes or scanners that you have not been instructed to use.  This may cause conflicts with the tools being used in the cleanup process.

If you have questions regarding any of the instructions or problems running any tools, please let us know.

A.  Regarding your network connection, did you follow the instructions to "Troubleshoot problems"?

B.  Regarding Error Code 0x80042302, please see the following steps:

1.  Check whether Volume Shadow Copy Service, System Restore Service is started and Set to Automatic

  • Type Services.msc in Start Menu search box, hit Enter.
  • Make sure that the Volume Shadow Copy Service is Running and set on Automatic.
  • If the Status of System Restore Service is not Started, Start it. Also set it on Automatic if it is not.
  • Restart the computer and check.

2.  Perform SFC(System File Checker) scan and see if the issue occurs.

3.  Boot the computer in Safe mode with networking and see if the issue occurs.
Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs don't run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed.

C.  Please provide a copy of the logs in the Log Posting Instructions topic and advise of the current status of the network connection and System Restore.
