On my PC win 8 lenovo installed 8.1.
Winpatrol shows igfxtray.exe to be disabled in the startup list however Task Manager shows it as running.
Winpatrol does not find find "Filesfrog update checker" also shown as running in Task Manager.
I was able to disable igfxtray using "autoruns" and remove Files frog using the uninstall program in its folder.

Joe,

Igfxtray places an icon in your system tray that you can use to set [Intel graphics] video controls.   There are other related processes, including igfxpers.exe [Intel Common User Interface Module for Video Graphics cards] and hkcmd.exe [Intel's Hotkey Command Module for VGA Graphics cards].

On my Win7 system, I have used WinPatrol to [try to] disable igfxpers and hkcmd.  (I don't see igfxtray listed for me.)   Despite this, both processes are indeed running in Task Manager... and a probable explanation is that there's also a startup that Winpatrol "hides" under Secret Startup Locations (Advanced Mode) called igfxcui (igfxdev.dll) of startup type "NOTIFY".   I'm assuming the latter "hidden" process --- which I haven't tried to disable --- somehow calls the two other processes (which I had explicitly "disabled").   Perhaps this explanation also applies to what you were seeing.

ky331 have you looked in task manager to see the ones you disabled are indeed not running, this is the point i'm making that Winpatrol says they are disabled but in fact are running.

Joe,

Thanks for taking the time to mention this.  As you may have read I have figured out the scheme Windows 8.x uses in the new Task Manager for setting a startup program as disabled.  So, I have put a method in place to sync up the disabled status. I did have a little help from a Microsoft fellow so in theory when a Windows 8.x user disables a program in WinPatrol I also set the Windows disabled status and vice versa. I have igfxtray on my system so I will check it out.
I suspect filesfrog is a 64 bit program which is work in progress.

The new task manager also includes a value indicating how much activity a program uses on startup. I haven't added this yet but if enough people ask we'll see. The disable sync'ing is a good example when I tell people WinPatrol will take advantage of new Windows 8.1 features while it supports Windows XP and beyond.

Thanks again,
Bill
