Windows 10 Builds

The current fast track release build is 10158. It has a number of improvements and seems to be pretty stable. Spartan browser is now Edge of course, with many new improvements. This will most likely be the the last insider preview build.

I guess it's just a bit of polishing until the final RTM build at the end of next month.

I have been testing on one desktop and one laptop. The 10130 build had some known issues on the laptop, with windows updates failing. It's kind of concerning because without the failed updates installing, any new updates to include the next build is basically stopped. It will not allow you to bypass those failed updates, and move on.

I find this to be a big concern with the automatic forced updates, for home users. If this happens anytime in the RTM build, there going to be stuck, until it is patched or may even be forced to do a recovery, after a patch, which means installing all updates again.

Seems to be more preview builds before the final RTM are in the pike. 100159 out for fast ring now.

BTW, be sure to check System Restore.  I've found it disabled on each build.  I know Windows 10 has Refresh and Reset but a Refresh will remove all installed desktop programs.  Sure you get a list, but if the problem was caused by the last software installed, why go through the exercise of reinstalling other programs?  A Reset will take it back to factory settings.

I'm actually running Build 10162 right now, slow ring users will get it sometime next week. I guess the builds are coming fast and furious before the RTM at the end of the month. This build has a more polished start screen, and cortona. Builds in the fast ring are almost to fast to allow testing.

Update 7/13: We're only a couple of weeks away now from our public release of Windows 10, and we're preparing for the world to begin the upgrade process.  Windows Insiders have been the first to see our work on Windows 10 at  every stage. Now you will also be the first to get a build flighted to  you using the channels that we'll use for targeting and deploying to PCs  for our staged rollout.

We're suspending the availability of Windows 10 builds briefly while  we prepare for that, and the next build that we flight to you will be  delivered using the production channels. Starting tomorrow, we will also  not be delivering any additional ISOs at this point as we really need  Insiders to be using, stressing, and validating our distribution and  upgrade processes. We'll make ISOs available again in the future, but  for now we ask you to upgrade your current build via Windows Update once  the next build is released.
Specifically, this means that in the next 24hrs:

• Builds 10162 and 10166 will no longer be offered over Windows  Update, and whatever build you're on will show as "up to date" if you  check for new builds.
  
• ISOs for build 10162 will be taken down from the  Home page - Windows Insider Program site and prerelease keys will no longer  activate builds.
  

Once we have a new build available we'll let you know through here with a blog post,  Insider Hub, and on Twitter.
We're very close to our public release and we're working very hard to  get everything just right. Please continue to send us problem reports  using the Windows Feedback app for any problems that you encounter.

Besides builds, over the next 2 weeks you'll also see some Windows Updates and app updates in the Store, so make sure to keep checking for updates daily to make sure you're running the latest and greatest code.

Build 10240, only available via Windows Update: Build 10240 now available for Windows Insiders in Fast and Slow rings

It's my understanding that it is TH1 10240, not RTM, which is being sent to retailers for testing. It's no longer impressive, no watermark.

The release of the first official RTM ISO is available, from Microsoft. This allows you create a either a DVD or USB version installer, for Windows Home or Windows Pro.

I would recommend that if you are going to upgrade to Win 10, to get a backup installer.

P.S.  If you are upgrading for the first time, you will need a new COA key to be a valid install. Wait for reserved download!!!

You can use the Windows media ISO or USB to install or upgrade a valid OS.
