Hi, all.

My eye ''fell'' on an article title, just under the article JDBush commented here: http://www.landzdown.com/web-news/darkode-malware-marketplace-the-fun-never-ends/msg177747/?topicseen#msg177747

Cyprus' New Cash Formula Unleashed

http://www.careerjournalonline.com/newsupdate/workfromhome/015clk/intl_survey/europe/?subid1=yhapac-eu1-cy

I heard about this once or twice. Stories like the one above, with names that are not ever Greek (e.g. Shutova) and irrelevant, misleading photos. No one from my friends and relatives believes that this thing is legal and true. If it was, then all we would be billionaires and no one would search for a job!

Anyway, I would like to hear your opinion! Is it a fraud?

Pete!

They both appear to be "work at home" scams.

They both triggered a warning from "Web Of Trust" (not just a red or amber rating).
The comments by WOT users indicate that I'm not alone in my opinion.

Corrine

I agree with Pete.  I selected the first link and used right-click search.  The WOT warning in the search results went to this WOT description: https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/careerjournalonline.com?utm_source=addon&utm_content=popup-donuts

Panos, what ad-blocking program are you using with PaleMoon?  I'm thinking that you probably shouldn't have even seen that link listed below the Yahoo article.

Hi, Corrine and Pete!. Thank you! So it's a fraud, and serious web pages can't publish such lies, using country names so easily!

Corrine, I'm using ABL (Latitude for Pale Moon). I didn't see anything. I just disabled it on that page but what should I see?

It's the first time I hear about WOT. Thank you.

Web of Trust is a useful tool, but it's not a substitute for good judgement.
It's based on the opinions of users.
Websites without much traffic are often unrated, or rated based on fans or enemies of the owner.
BUT
A red or amber rating is one thing.
However, when WOT actually blocks the website, you might reconsider going there.

Corrine

Granted WOT isn't perfect but also keep in mind that hpHOSTS is also used by WOT.  For those who didn't know, although the HOSTS file is maintained as a separate "entity" so to speak with updates posted in the LzD Security Software Programs forum, hpHOSTS Updates:

QuoteMalwarebytes recently completed the acquisition of hpHosts, a popular and trusted blacklist of malicious websites, ad servers and tracking servers. The acquisition ensures that Malwarebytes protects against the newest malevolent internet protocol (IP) addresses and harmful links while blocking the web servers being used to distribute the actual malware. Additionally, the blacklist is used as leverage to persuade Internet Service Providers to shut down active malware-producing servers, helping to curb the malware problem for the Internet community as a whole.

Corrine,

How stupid I am! There are times I don't understand what I'm reading! I thought that you wondered why I didn't see a link there, saying that the article was a scam!!! :Win73:

But now I see that you meant I shouldn't had the link appeared below JDBush's article! (RIGHT?)

Actually there are many many ''recommended'' links below the article. No ads, but links to other articles. You mean that you don't see them? As I said above, I have ABL (Latitude).

I hope that I understood this time... Otherwise, I need to have some sleep!!!

Panos, the link that I posted was to a simple Yahoo news story, and there were no links or pop-ups when I first visited the page, nor subsequently. Probably best to not click on anything if you are seeing additional links, especially if WOT has flagged them as others have mentioned.

Ok, I get it.  Both Panos and John are both right.

As John said, no pop-ups and I thought you were seeing either a pop-up or an advertisement.

As to links, under the article, yes, Yahoo does that below the article in a "Recommended for You" section.  You saw an article targeted for your region.  Returning to the Yahoo page, I saw links to stores about "Father of children whose mother died in ice cave collapse killed in California", "10 Images That Show What Coastal Cities Will Look Like After Sea Levels Rise", "What the FBI Found In 'Gone Girl' Kidnapping Suspect Matthew Muller's Storage Locker", and more U.S.-based articles.

Oh, I stand corrected. I misunderstood. Yes, I also see the "Recommended for You" section below the article, yet none of the links look to be malicious in any way; i.e., simply additional mews stories from Associated Press, CBS News, etc.

Thank you, Corrine. Among the above articles you mention, there was the one about Make money at home.
