Started Receiving Window Alerting pop ups today

Twice today; once in Chrome and once in Pale Moon I got window alertingdotcome pop up that stopped my computer.  Both times I did an Alt F4 to get out of it.  I was able to do a print screen of it. 

Part of the message:  "Your computer has been blocked  Error #268E3.  Call 1-888-790-2366."

I have ESETNOD32 and Malwarebytes and I ran scans after the first pop up but neither scan came up with anything. 

I have to shut down soon for the night, but I hope to hear from someone.  This pop up came up the last time when I was checking my WinPatrol Plus.

This tech support scam is typically bundled with/installed by a free program.  Have you downloaded anything recently?

I am sorry for not following instructions, I was so panicked with it.  Malwarebytes help has also been helping me and I haven't gotten too much done beyond them.  Thank you Winchester 73.  I can't remember installing a free program lately, but the issue looks to me to be a fake tech support scam.  Malwarebytes has all but assured me that my computer hasn't been hacked by the looks of my screen print I sent to them.  It has been quite exhausting for me to deal with this, so I apologize for my delay in gettng back here to reply.  At the time, I had not heard from Malwarebytes about my problem.  Thank you!

The folks at Malwarebytes are very good, and you should really only get help at one place as it can cause confusion and conflicts if you follow multiple threads with various folks at several forums at the same time. 

Yes, it is a fake support scam, and the removal should be pretty straightforward.

I'd suggest you stay with the MB forum since you started out there first.  Perhaps you can post a link to your thread over there?

Hi Winchester73.  Yes, I apologize again, when I wrote to you first I had not heard from Malwarebytes.  There are times it can take over a day to hear from them, so I just wasn't sure.  I am getting emails in from them, the help is not coming through a forum.  I have printed out now from them I think 6 pages (a guy name Maurice is helping me) and I have to say that I have gotten more help than I normally have ever gotten from them.  I don't mean to confuse members here, so if it is better my post is deleted than the administrator can do that.  Thank you.

Hi Thanks.  I think Maurice has now closed out my ticket number.  But I do have six pages of print outs from his recommendations and links.  They have been helpful.  Thanks for the responses, and the comments.  I appreciate your patience with me.
