Have the bugs been worked out of the new WinPatrol version?

I'm currently running versionV33.6.2015.18 (posted July 27th)

I declined to update in November because of all the problems reported.

Today I got an internal WinPatrol notice that a new version was available, right after this alert:

A new process has been added to the start menu:   CMD.exe  listed in application data. I didn't copy the whole file path, unforunately.

I checked the notes and verified via the WP notes that it was a normal MicroSoft process, and the majority of the user inputs agreed.  (Although they never all seem to agree for some reason)

So I allowed it, and then a minute or so later, the notice appeared again. It seemed to be the same thing.

It was right after that when the internal update notice appeared about a new version.

So now I'm wondering if there is some glitch or other problem that needs investigating before I install the updated version.

I've been running V34.11.2016.27 with no problems.

As for the two alerts for cmd.exe, without knowing the exact messages, I cannot tell what happened. But I do know, unless you disable it, WP will alert you when an old version of a start up program is removed, then you will get a second alert when the updated version of the start up program in set to run at start up. So that might be why you got two.

I had the same cmd.exe warning, perhaps it was due to the Windows Update for the servicing stack?

I just noticed the One Drive cloud icon in my task bar.

I think that might have been responsible for the alert, because I had disabled One Drive (I thought) and the icon has not been there since. Now it is.   Its waiting for me to sign in and set it up.  Silly One Drive! I don't need you!

I vaguely remember  something about One Drive mentioned in the Scotty notice.

It is weird how these old programs keep showing up spontaneously.

Thanks for the report on it being safe to update to the new WinPatrol version.  I'll try to do that next week sometime.

How could you not love OneDrive!  It is one of my favorite applications.  :)

Maybe I don't understand what its good for? I was thinking it was for syncing devices?

I only use my desktop for most things, and I don't use a smart phone.  ( I do have a tablet but I only use it for games and when I travel.)

Corrine

Yes, it is good for syncing devices.  It is also great for online storage/backup.  No, it doesn't replace a system backup but works great as an additional place to backup pictures, music. etc.  Since it doesn't apply to you, ignore the info about OneDrive for business:  https://support.office.com/en-us/onedrive

OneNote and OneDrive are both winners in my book.

Maybe I'll give it another look.   I would like a place to back up an extensive collection of image files.  And if it could automatically update the backup folders, that would be awesome.

Ummm, yes, of course.  It also works on Mac, Android & iOS.
