Yesterday, AOL announced the discontinuance of their dialup service.  From the announcement:

QuoteAOL routinely evaluates its products and services and has decided to discontinue Dial-up Internet. This service will no longer be available in AOL plans. As a result, on September 30, 2025 this service and the associated software, the AOL Dialer software and AOL Shield browser, which are optimized for older operating systems and dial-up internet connections, will be discontinued.

According to TECHSPOT:

QuoteThe latest US government census data states that 265,331 people with an internet subscription rely on dial-up alone. The faster and generally better option for those in rural areas is satellite connectivity from the likes of Starlink. The same data shows that 8 million people use one of these Satellite Internet services.

There could also be some remote areas that do not have access to satellite services.  According to the TECHSPOT article, dial up services is still available from NetZero, Juno, and DSL Extreme

A moment of silence doesn't seem appropriate, rather there should be the familiar sound of beeps, tone, and static.
