Adobe is releasing its 5th update of the year today, which certainly seems a bit extreme.

I don't recall when I last used Adobe Acrobat/Reader and wonder if others here use it.  Please reply if you do or don't use it.

I use it sometimes but I also have Microsoft Office,365 so I could do without. I to Corrine noticed the amount of updates from them lately, Extreme is what I was thinking also.

No, there are too many other ways to read and edit PDFs, with software that I already use.

The last version of Acrobat Reader that I have installed is 11.0.23, which is far out of date; I cannot remember when I last used it---probably a decade or so or more!  I did not find the the "DC" versions of Adobe Reader attractive, although I did use them at work because that is what my employer had and allowed.

At home I use Sumatra PDF for virtually all of my reader purposes.  It is very light weight (on resource use) and effective.  Also many browsers open pdf files "in browser" now also.

For many other miscellaneous pdf functions (such as editing, manipulating, and printing to pdf) I use free versions of PDF-XChange Editor, PDF-XChange Lite, PDFgear, PDF Shaper Free 8.9, PDFill PDF Tools and even occasionally PDF24.  And there seem to be many other free options available for most if not all pdf functions.

I don't use it, gave up with it many years ago. I use Foxit several time a week

I removed it years ago. I used Foxit until it started getting bloated. I now use 7-zip.
I rarely have to edit pdf files so I don't need all the bells and whistles.

I do have a tool that splits and merges pdf files which I use.

Plodr,
Are you saying that 7-zip can be used to open/read .pdf files?

Paddy

I think,
7-Zip cannot directly read or display the content inside a .pdf file, as it is a file archiver, not a PDF viewer. However, 7-Zip can open, view, and extract .pdf files that are stored inside
compressed archives..

Adobe Reader is used here everywhere: schools, ministries, public services etc.

However, it's just a reader, and I wonder why. If you don't use the Pro features, which include edit features among many other, there are better free programs which include almost everything.

I also use Foxit, because it has many features which allow me to edit PDF and much more.

When I want to merge, split, convert etc., I use PDF24 which is an excellent free tool. The only issue with it is that it can't make fries... 😄
