For general Windows information, a good Microsoft site to start at is :-

"The Windows Family Homepage" >>> http://www.microsoft.com/windows/default.mspx

There are many good links, tips and "freebies" on that site.

or ...

If you are looking for something more "meaty",  like full documentation for XP Professional, try this:-

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/hs_exploring_windows.mspx

http://www.niscc.gov.uk/niscc/index-en.html

It is the site of the UK Government CERT so I may be a little biased toward it. Whilst primarily aimed at indistry it contains valuable information for the home user.  8)
