Hi Tracy,
Welcome to Landzdown!
I'm not sure if I can solve your problem, but I'll have a go at it.  Mostly just wanted to welcome you, and let you know there are some tremendously skilled and gifted staff and members here, and I'm sure someone will have your answer

I know if you look at the Tools menu > Options > Security tab, there are several settings there, in the top half of the window, which can have a strong effect on attachments.  I don't understand, from your message, exactly which settings you've already tried.  So I'll just leave it at that, for now.  If this info is not helpful, then don't worry, I'm sure someone else will know what to do!

Once again, welcome aboard!

Tracy,
Just curious  :uhm:
Have you been able to read that attachment yet?

and what kind of attachment?
and do you have IE set up to "protect" you from malicious attachments?

Tracy Gibson

No I still have not got this fixed. It is any attachment that this one person tries to send to me. But I like I stated before I can login to the email server and check it and the attachment is there but when I pull it in with outlook express the attachment is gone, the email comes through but not the attachment. And I do have OE set to allow attachments.

Are you seeing the "paperclip" icon on the mail after you have downloaded it from the mail server?

Does this Microsoft Knowledge Base article describe your problem?

Tracy Gibson

Dear Eric the Red, no paperclip does not show up after I pull the email in off the server.

And Dear Mitch I did read your last post and I thought I gave you the info you asked for. It is any kind of attachment that she tries to send me (word, excel, jpg, ect). If I still have not given you the info you need then I dont know what you are asking me for.

Tracy,

Please do the following so that we can follow the sequence of events.

Have your friend create a simple text file in notepad (the word "Test" would be sufficient) and save it with the name Test.txt .

Ask your friend to create an e-mail message, attach the file Test.txt and send it to you. Let us know if you receive the message with the file attached.

Thanks,

Are you running anti-virus software?  If so, what brand and is it up-to-date including
compatible with XP SP1 /SP 2?  When you go to open an attachment, the anti-virus software would
kick in to scan it.

It might be that the anti-virus software is tripping up OE.
