It's come to my attention, by names I will not name, that my new sig *might* be annoying to Landzdown members

...the candy cane one...
So I thought I'd see what you all think  :D

Be honest now.  Don't hold back.  Just because I like it  doesn't mean you all do.

Please take this poll seriously.  I don't want to cause a LzD member  any <cough> undue annoyance.

ripley,
  you know my thoughts.

Q: does it work
A: It does seem to for a few hours at least.

anything should be allowed in a sig as long as not obscene or take forever to download !!!!!
and whoever was wining like the old model A transmission i had probably has a sig that i would not like !!!
and lets see if they have the guts to say who they were !

with all the things going on in the world geese someone needs to get a life if they are going to wine about the cane !

D

if anyone doesn't like my candy cane.
well send me a snail mail with your complaint on the back of a $20 bill in triplicate and i will consider doing something about it

boy i love firefox with it's spell check, makes it so easy when i am ranting ;-D

Ripley

It looks like the votes are split 50/50.  Some interesting ideas here.

Shorter; a darling Christmas kitty alternative :flowers: ;using spell check in firefox with friendly rantings; and Ripley opening business for haircuts (believe me when I say, me doing haircuts would not be a good thing :tease:)

Gonna give these ideas some thought, as I am still futzing around with these graphics tricks  :exorcize:

mikey

I don't understand why anyone would care. Personally, I like it and stole it. :)

However if I didn't like it and didn't want to ever see it again, I'd just turn the image off with a couple of clicks, just like I do with any element I don't wish to see again.

Tell the one who complains to get AdShield and he too can do the same.

Besides, I needed something for her stand on;

I don't see any problem with it and if anyone does find it annoying they can easily block it (or any other graphic) by placing it in their HOSTS file with a 127.0.0.1 precursor.

e.g.

127.0.0.1  followed by a couple of spaces and then the URL.

Then all they will see is a blank space holder where the image used to be.

I say keep it Ripley, if you like it,  as others who don't like it can so easily block it.  8)

Mikey, did NetWidow give you permission to post her picture here?  ;)

Ripley, I like the candy cane too.

No question about it -- inflation has hit California!  Mitch used to say to send him a snail mail with your complaint on the back of a $20 bill but I see it now needs to be "in triplicate" for him to consider doing something about it.

He can post that picture of me anywhere.

I like the candy cane and voted to keep it.

Corrine you haven't changed the emoticons I fixed yet :(

Wow, candy canes or eye candy  :tease:  The first image that came to my mind w/ Mickey's "Santa baby" was Lily Tomlin doing that swarmy lounge singer Tommy Velour singing Ka-Chunk, Ka-Chunk, Chunk, Chunk Chunk   Ya might have had to see it, to appreciate it...but it's what came to my brain.

I'm on to hijacking my own poll  :hijacked:  as dealing with graphics, or images you don't want to see, is an interest of mine and these ideas are quite interesting.

Totro  :)

Question:  It would seem by your comment that you can you add just one entry manually, like a url that points to one image, say my candy cane bar, or individual entries, in your hosts file?  I'm only familiar with adding a boat load of entries, like with IE Spyad.

Mickey  :)

Question:  I have been looking at Ad-Shield.  I think I want to get it, but when I looked previously, and now when I looked again at the link you posted, does this only work when using Internet Explorer?  Or does it also work with FF, or other browsers?   I can't find any clear answer at their Ad-Shield website.  Assuming that it only works with IE, would this be the equivalent to Ad-Block Plus in FF?

mikey

I don't use FF so I don't know what all the different plugins do. I know everyone says that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread but I have no reason to get it. I haven't found anyone who could tell me a good reason to use it. Anyway, I can't tell you what the diff is.

I've been using AS since the early beta days in 2000. It's the one tool I would not leave off any of our sys. All my users(I admin multiple SOHOs 600+ appliances) just love it as much as I do. It can with just a couple of clicks block any flash, img, url, or entire domain. It's the best 'smart' popup blocker I've ever used. It also can incorporate/import the Agnis list for blocking nasties including a lot of the bad porn sites. The Agnis list is the one IESpyAds is derived from. On my personal machines, I just can't do without my AS & Proxomitron.

As for the ref to the Hosts file; I've been using a hosts file since 97 and have over 60k items on mine. I don't believe it would be of much use for blocking pics tho. It only blocks entire domains...not urls. Ref; http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Anyway, as you may can tell, I love AS and highly recommend it. I just love clicking _hit away. :)

Hey Corrine, you trying to get me in trouble? How should a man answer to that? I guess it's a good thing NW answered and let me off the hook. :)

Forgot to answer your other question. AS is an IE BHO and therefore only works with IE and possibly other IE shell browsers.
