Hi there  :help:

I have been on PCWorld and was advised to try this forum. Am having difficulty figuring out why my computer requests to reinstall software whenever I boot up the computer. It is also doing other funky  things, like clicking a whole lot when I am not doing anything- I am new to computers and suspect that there is malware on my computer, pardon my naivety but I cannot track or find what it is and destroy it.

I have pasted in my recent hijack log. I hope this is of assistance.

Hi, PCNewbie.  Welcome to LandzDown Forum.

If this were my computer, I wouldn't have anything in the trusted zone.

If you are working with someone at another forum, you should stick with them.  However, if that thread is closed, start with updating SunJava.  Its likely that is the source of the problem.  Please see my instructions here:  http://securitygarden.blogspot.com/2006/09/sunflowers-and-sunjava-update.html

Next, I'd like you to rename HijackThis.exe.  Certain malware has been written to hide from the full file name and renaming usually brings it out.

Please navigate to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis
Right-click on Hijackthis.exe
Select rename
Rename the file something like myhjt.exe (be sure to keep the extension)

Please post a fresh HijackThis log.

So she does.  Well, since PCNewbie felt we were "slow to respond", perhaps you could have explained to her that we help at many sites and sometimes work and family life intervene.  I still want the computer checked for any old versions of Sun Java, a response on those entries in the trusted zone and a renamed HJT log.

BTW, what is Winferno all about?

I read your response and thank-you- certainly I meant no offense with my inquiry on pcworld's forum- I send these things out and forget that there are real lives offering assistance in cyberspace. Having said that, the moderator on that forum advised I get expert advice over here, hence my request for assistance. I am desperate to remedy this problem and hope that you will continue to aid me in ridding whatever is ailing my computer....

Having said that, I did what you instructed me to do-  I am not too sure if the latest log I posted turned up anything new or relevant, but none the less, here is the latest scan that I performed. I tried to rename the logfile, don't know if that worked. Somehow I am suspecting not.

I will await for further instruction.

We want to re-name the .exe file, not the folder ...

Have it look like this:  C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\MyHJT.exe

Of course, I realize now that I should have asked you right off the name of the software program(s) that seem to be attempting to reinstall at startup.  Is it a program you installed or something you are not familiar with?
