how to exclude files from Ad-Aware and/or Spybot S&D scans

Hi Friends,
First I want to say thanks for your help with another issue, which is currently active in the Hijack This Forum.  Now I have a new problem, which I need to address, before I can continue with the first one.

I got a weird but serious error message from NAV2005, which apparently has a few possible causes.  The message was that Norton had encountered a serious internal program error, and it was shutting itself off, along with my Norton firewall.  This happened out of the blue.  I immediately shut down my system and restarted.  I was able to re-enable both NAV and the firewall, and so far, Norton has been working properly.  But I have to sort out why it happened.  According to Symantec's info on it (3029.27), if neither of the following can be confirmed and corrected, the solution is to uninstall and reinstall Norton.  One possible cause is a virus or other malware infection damaged the NAV program files, but scans with all my many programs turned up nothing.  Another possible cause is that a spyware program identified certain Symantec files as spyware.  Since this error message came up the day after I downloaded the Silent Runners script, as part of resolving the problem in the HT Forum, I suspect it is part of this problem.  But the solution would be to configure the spyware program not to recognize the Symantec files as spyware.  And when I read the SR info (on their website) it states SR is not a spyware programs, does not scan for or remove spyware.  So it would seem SR is not the problem.  I have checked my Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D programs, and do find a way to have Ad-Aware exclude certain files in a scan.  However it does not present the specific files which Symantec wants excluded (Symlcnet.dll and Xlok) as available for exclusion.  And I can't find a way to exclude anything with Spybot S&D.

As it turns out, I had purchased NIS2005 online and downloaded, without requesting the backup CD.  So I have contacted Symantec and a backup CD is on the way.  But I'm hoping to be able to exclude the Symantec files, and otherwise hope for the best.  But if I can't exclude them, I will have to reinstall.

So here is my new question:  Can Ad-Aware and/or Spybot S&D be set to exclude Symlcnet.dll and Xlok?

Brynn,

I am not aware of a proven conflict between AAW and NAV2005 (I am prepared to be corrected!). You mention XLok, it could be this that is causing your problem as reported in this thread. Have alook at that and see if it mirrors your problem.

Thanks for taking an interest in this problem.  In reading the 2003 thread to which you provided a link, it doesn't sound to me like the same problem I'm having.  Based on what I read at the Symantec site

those 2 files are Symantec files.  In the thread you provided, it sounds like Xlok is the shortened name of an independent product, or program called Xstreamlok.  It mentions a website (Xtreamlok.com) which now only contains a mailing address and phone number in Australia, so I'm seriously doubting my problem is related.  But I appreciate your time and attention  :)
