I installed Spybot - Search and Destroy today. When i try to scan, I get an error message that i need to install the detection updates first. when i try to intall the updates, i there appears 'bad checksum' in the info column.

Keep trying, or try one of the other sites to download.  Spybot has different update locations ... you may want to try clicking another link to update from (instead of the one you're using).  This bad checksum thing happens now and then when the servers are overloaded.

Click on the little black arrow to the right of where it names the currently selected server.  You'll get a drop down box with other locations.  Pick a different one, and see if that allows the download to complete properly.

Hi Marcosson!

When downloading files over the Internet it sometimes happens that all those tiny packages with information wont get through correctly to your computer.
My suggestion is that you try to get at it again, or try again a bit later.
The communication to the servers for SpyBot S&D are sometimes extremely busy.

In a perfect world, spammers would get caught, go to jail, and share a cell with many men who have enlarged something, taken Viagra and are looking for a new relationship.

If you are impatient, you could try to manually download the update from the link towards the bottom of this page:  http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html

Thank you, dear friends, for the advice. As there is no rush I think that I will uninstall and then re-install from another site.

You don't need to uninstall SpyBot ... just select another download location to retrieve the update ... my first post mentioned how to do that.
